Publisher's summary

An evening of readings and discussion: Heller's friends and colleagues including Christopher Buckley, Robert Gottlieb, and Mike Nichols. They revisit his classic black comedy set at the end of World War II, one of the most important books about patriotism, honor, and the absurdities of war and beauracracy of the 20th century. The conversation is led by Lesley Stahl. An excerpt is performed by Scott Shepherd (Gatz). "The rock and roll of novels...There's no book like it." (Norman Mailer)

Editorial reviews

A lively evening of discussions and reminiscences celebrating the 50th anniversary of Joseph Heller's Catch 22. After a reading from the book by actor Scott Shepherd, journalist Lesley Stahl interviews Robert Gottlieb, who edited the novel; Mike Nichols, who directed the 1970 film based on the book; and novelist Christopher Buckley, who was friends with Heller. Along the way the distinguished group discuss what it was like to work with Heller, the making of the book and movie, Heller's extraordinary talent, and the redemptive power of humor in the Eisenhower era and beyond.

Interesting take

This is kind of like the cliff notes version of Catch-22 with extras. Much different than expected but OK.

This is NOT AN AUDIOBOOK

This is not an audiobook of Catch 22. It’s some actor’s performance of an abridged version. Hugely disappointed. I will try to “return” this if I can.

Food for thought

Amazing insights into a great book by people associated with Mr Heller. Inspires me to reread Catch 22 with new perspectives of 50 years since first reading.

This is NOT a version of the audio book but its great!

I loved hearing from the original editor of the book and Mike Nichols! This is a live Interview with people who knew Joseph Heller. An Actor reads the opening with some hick-ups but a nice voice... this whole recording is a celebration and a wee insight into the exceptional and controversial book “A Catch 22”.
