Publisher's summary

From the veteran comedian and actor from The Wrestler and Louie comes a hilarious book of travel essays from his time on tour through secondary markets in the US, Canada, and Israel.

Hello. It's Todd Barry. Yes, the massively famous comedian. I have billons of fans all over the world, so I do my fair share of touring. While I love doing shows in the big cities (New York, Chicago, Cleveland), I also enjoy a good secondary market (Rochester, Springfield, Toledo). There's something great about performing in a place where they don't expect to see you. They're appreciative. They say things like "thank you for coming to Hattiesburg" as much as they say "nice show". And almost every town has their version of a hipster coffee shop, so I can get in my comfort zone.

My original plan was to book one secondary market show in all 50 states in about a year, but that idea was funnier than anything in my act. So, instead of all 50 states in a year, my agent booked multiple shows in a lot of states, plus Israel and Canada.

Thank You for Coming to Hattiesburg is part tour diary, part travel guide, and part memoir. (Yes, memoir. Just like the thing presidents and former child stars get to write.) Follow me on my journey of small clubs and the occasional big amphitheater. Watch me make a promoter clean the dressing room toilet in Connecticut, see me stare at beached turtles in Maui, and see how I react when Lars from Metallica shows up to see me at a rec center in Northern California.

I'd love to tell you more, but I need to go book a flight to Evansville, Indiana.

World famous comedian, tells life on the road

This book is a generous look into a world famous comedian's life on the road. The mere fact that Todd would take the time to address civilians is a success in it's own right. He graciously explains the real life on the road, while not bragging too much about his extravagant lifestyle in world renowned cities such as Dayton, or Asheville. I'd suggest doing yourself a favor and purchasing this book, and letting the man himself tell you about lifestyle as a rich and famous.

Boom Boom Todd Barry.

I picture Todd narrating this book in a setting, like his scene in Louie, when he discussed his name being spelled Berry in his dressing room door, while the crowd gathers around him to find out he gets the club manager to change it to Barry. Victory! Best delivered by Todd Barry himself. He's a legend in his own mind, and mine!

Todd Barry is Wonderfully Great

For anyone into comedy, anyone who likes to travel, anyone who wants insight into the life of a comic on the road, and anyone who likes to laugh. Todd Barry is my favorite comedian and his memoir/travelogue doesn’t disappoint. 5 stars. A++

Great read.

Good, quick read. It is a format that I assumed would be somewhat repetitive but I found the opposite to be true. It had a true feel of being "in on it" and behind the scene. Breaking the 4th wall. Most important...it was FUNNY!

So Much fun

I ended up liking this a lot more than I thought I would. If you are a Todd Barry fan, this book is a must. It's like following his inner monologue is he (with humor) looks down on the rest of us. I am kidding a bit. Todd is a legend. This book is a collection of random thought by Barry on his tours in smaller unknown cities and many well know cities too. Stand up fans should pick this up for sure. Todd is one of the kings of dead pan humor and irony.

What a way to kill time during a long drive!

I got this before a drive from Austin to Lewisville, TX. Before I knew it, the drive was over and I just wanted to keep driving to hear the rest.
