About this listen

Fifty years after The Andromeda Strain made Michael Crichton a household name - and spawned a new genre, the technothriller - the threat returns, in a gripping sequel that is terrifyingly realistic and resonant.

The evolution is coming.

In 1967, an extraterrestrial microbe came crashing down to Earth and nearly ended the human race. Accidental exposure to the particle - designated the Andromeda Strain - killed every resident of the town of Piedmont, Arizona, save for an elderly man and an infant boy. Over the next five days, a team of top scientists assigned to Project Wildfire worked valiantly to save the world from an epidemic of unimaginable proportions. In the moments before a catastrophic nuclear detonation, they succeeded.

In the ensuing decades, research on the microparticle continued. And the world thought it was safe....

Deep inside Fairchild Air Force Base, Project Eternal Vigilance has continued to watch and wait for the Andromeda Strain to reappear. On the verge of being shut down, the project has registered no activity - until now. A Brazilian terrain-mapping drone has detected a bizarre anomaly of otherworldly matter in the middle of the jungle, and, worse yet, the tell-tale chemical signature of the deadly microparticle.

With this shocking discovery, the next-generation Project Wildfire is activated, and a diverse team of experts hailing from all over the world is dispatched to investigate the potentially apocalyptic threat.

But the microbe is growing - evolving. And if the Wildfire team can’t reach the quarantine zone, enter the anomaly, and figure out how to stop it, this new Andromeda Evolution will annihilate all life as we know it.

Excellent book

The author really gives a good credit to the source material. I’m sure Michael Crichton would be proud to know his memory lives on.

The last half of the book is worth a listen

The begining of the story needed a good editor. The overall performance was well done.

Excellent book

This is a fascinating look at what would have happened beyond the Andromeda Strain. It stayed true to the original story.

Wrong choice in perspective leads to clunky storytelling

The idea was good, characters were good, plot was good, twists were good. But the choice to tell the story from the perspective of a series of reports instead of first or third person ruined it for me. It would have been so easy to use third person or even first so I don’t understand why the author insisted on using the cobbling together of various reports to tell the story. It was dry, clunky, boring in parts, and difficult to continue listening, were it not for my curiosity about how it would end, all because of the perspective mentioned above.

Best sequel no one ever asked for ever.

This was an excellent performance but my main praise is that this sequel was created that does almost everything right when it really shouldn't have been made. it's actually so good I hope they make a third one set 50 more years later.

great remaking of an old classic in modern era

Did a good job of keeping the feel of the original story while still giving a new flavor and depth. The cross culture cast and recent history events tied in to today as a possibility. Albeit as a science fiction one.

We are not safe

I was very excited to see sequel to first book. This book built on the first book and and added more terror. I highly recommend this book.

To bad Michael Crichton isn’t alive to wr

Excellent story. It is too bad Michael Crichton is not alive to write more excellent stories. I thought this was good all around.
