About this listen

Born into a post-summer-of-love bohemian squalor, Cinnamon Monday attempts to teach herself life's lessons by emulating her favorite 19th-century literary heroines. As she enters adolescence, and her imagination is no longer enough to protect her, Cinnamon must escape dangers circumstances and thrive in the real world by relying on her wits and the kindness of strangers who become friends. Set in the beautiful Dry Creek Valley, The Angels' Share is the story of a young woman determined to live her best life and become the kind of person she'd only read about.

A story of love, substance abuse, neglect and growing up

This story is following Cinnamon Monday in her growing up and her search for love. And love in this case doesn’t just mean romantic love, but genuine connections and acceptance, family.
The listener/reader is taken through different times of Cinnamon’s life - the jumps can be a little confusing at first, but it eventually comes together contextually. Cinnamon’s attempts of finding love do not work out the wholesome way - she stumbles, falls a lot, meets rejection etc. - and even if some of it is of her own making we cannot help but feel and root for her.

The narration is lovely. Going through these motions is not pretty, and the narrator portrays Cinnamon’s mindset quite well. The narration is easy to follow and dive into the story with :)

Best book so far this year!

Absolutely incredible. The best book I’ve read so far this year.
I could relate to Cinnamon in some ways. I was never a drug addict but I had a pretty crazy childhood as well. The struggles she had and the power and determination it took for her to overcome everything was remarkable. The people she encountered. Sam, Eduardo and connecting with her cousin. I felt so much of this in my bones. My heart ached for her. I usually have zero tolerance for drug addicts, (My mother was one) but I felt for Cinnamon, I loved her and I wanted only the best for her. I know these characters and this story will stay with me for a long time and I will definitely recommend it to others! I cried a few times and not always because the story was sad. There was so much hope as well!
Anna Caputo was an excellent narrator choice for this novel. Loved her!

Great storytelling

Written in the style of a memoir, this is a pretty believable and engrossing story of an unbelievably disfunctional family. It's very much a character-driven story performed quite well by Anna Caputo. It's great storytelling.
