About this listen

From acclaimed romance author Ellyn Oaksmith comes a novel of change, challenges, and ultimately kindness....

Being overly kind isn't in Kylie Harrow's nature. This has never been more evident than when Kylie vents her frustrations to an innocent employee - and the whole scene is posted online, tanking her career and earning her the dubious distinction of "world's worst boss". But when she flees home to the South, Kylie finds her childhood home has changed. The high school quarterback is now the hot and handsome sheriff. Her mother has turned her home into a nudist colony. And, worst of all, having heard about her daughter's exploits, her mother won't let her in the door until Kylie completes 50 kind acts in 50 days.

The task seems easy enough at first - and may even help repair her media image - but it quickly turns into a hilarious quest that leads Kylie down a bumpy road filled with new challenges. What started as a gimmick to save her career evolves into a mission to save a spunky old woman and her little dog from homelessness. As Kylie learns about the nature of kindness, she finds the path to happiness and, for the first time ever, maybe even love.

Fun book!

I listened to this book on my way to and from work and looked forward to it every day. While some parts were predictable, the book overall offered several surprises. Wendy Stetson's performance was entertaining and she did an OK job with the Southern accents.

Can a Leopard Change It's Spots

Kylie Harrow is the “world’s worst boss” according to YouTube after a not so secretly taped video of her berating her assistant goes viral.

Kylie is stunned when the dressing down she gives her subordinate ends with her unceremonious dismissal. Kylie heads back home to wait out her exile. Once there she must try to get along with a mother she doesn’t understand and confront issues from her past that she buried long ago.

50 Acts of Kindness is the story of Kylie’s journey to become a better person by following the steps provided in a book written by her very own mother in which 50 kind acts in 50 days, can change your life.

I found Kylie’s character hard to love, probably just like most people in her life. She’s about as warm and huggable as a porcupine, but she comes by her armor honestly. This story is well told and will tug at your heartstrings. It’s a story anyone who has been hurt can relate to, even if you can’t quite find yourself rooting for Kylie.

This audiobook slide in at just over 10 ½ hours and is narrated by Wendy Rich Stetson. Wendy is quickly becoming one of my favorites in adult women’s fiction. The range of characters she voices are amazing and she does them well regardless of gender or age. The audio quality is subpar. The sound is uneven and there is hissing and pops in the background. It’s noticeable, but doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of this delightful story.

Funny!

A likable heroine falls from grace and returns home to her Mom's small town to regroup. The misadventures that follow are a lot of fun, with a wide cast of characters and the slow, unwitting transformation of the main character. The excellent narration by Wendy Rich Stetson truly brings this vivid world to life.

50 Acts of Kindness

Have you listened to any of Wendy Rich Stetson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have and I love her performance in this book! She does an amazing job!

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a light fun story with a good dose of reality, good bit of humor and a little romance this is your story. I really enjoyed listening to this and it was a story that was hard to put down.

As Kylie tries to prove she is not the worst boss(human) in the world, she is pushed to complete her moms 50 acts of kindness. I am not sure I could have made it and not exploded on half the rude people in this story and yet she holds it in, most of the time! It seems no mater what she does she just gets shoved back down. But amazingly Kylie does not let this affect her. She just bonces back! I love the support of her best friend and her mom! And the nudist B&B was a hoot!

Hard to like leading lady. but worth a read!

50 Acts of Kindness by Ellyn Oaksmith (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Wendy Rich Stetson

4 Stars - Right off.. the heroine, Kylie, is a snobby bitch. Wow! I was happy to see that as soon as she got “home” karma really did bite her in the ass. Throughout this story I was dumbfounded at how she treats people and yet so many of them take her crap! I was happy to see that Chet was NOT one of them. He stands up to her and it's about time someone does.

I had a hard time respecting Kylie. Even at the end of the book she at least seemed to mature a bit and find out some stuff about herself and how to treat people, but at the same time still held a bit of the selfishness to her.. she kept saying “I can't believe he said that” when she, herself had acted the same way, not that long ago.. so I wished she would have made the connection “on the page” on how horrible she treated people as I am not sure if she actually understood how badly she behaved.

The secondary characters were great. I really liked Margaret, she was a spunky old lady. I see her as basically an older version of Kylie. The voice Wendy used for her was perfect! The mother and her B&B was funny, the dog Bat, Marcus - Kylie’s friend, and of course Chet all helped to make it a good read.

I had no expectations with this book, as I have never read or actually even heard of this author before. I found it funny in parts and I shook my head with a grin at Kylie’s antics a few times. The writing was good and the narration was also done well. I wish there was a bit more romance.. cause I am a total romance junkie.. but honestly this book kept me listening to see how it all worked out. Even if some of the times it was just to see what this crazy chick would do or say next!

A 5 star romantic comedy!

I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest review. The title might lead you to believe this is of a different nature than a romantic comedy, but if you want a good laugh, try this book.
50 Acts of Kindness starts out with the main character, Kylie, being called out and fired by her boss for berating a pregnant coworker for taking too many trips to the bathroom and being too tired to do her work on the scale that Kylie wants. The pregnant coworker had her phone on her belly, recording at the time. You Tube! Kylie is soon known by millions as the world's worst boss. She decided to head home to wait for everything to die down...only to discover that her mother has turned her childhood home into a B&B for nudists! While she's trying to ignore the numerous bouncy and dangling body parts, her mother convinces her that she should try to perform the fifty acts of kindness as a way to redeem herself. Kylie tries really hard, even if not for the right reasons at first. Some of the acts end in total disaster. Then she meets the world's ugliest dog and a nasty old woman who actually need her.
When you add into the mix a hunky ex-football star from her high school days now turned Sheriff, who constantly witnesses her lowest moments and wants her anyway, you've got quite the story. Aside from the laughter and romance, you get to experience the growth of Kylie's character. This story really impressed me.
Wendy Rich Stetson did a great job with the performance of this book. My favorite character voice was that of Margaret, the cranky, rude, stubborn old lady. Very funny performance! I loved it!

Great Book!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book written by Ellyn Oaksmith and narrated by Wendy Rich Stetson. Kylie Harrow isn’t known for being overly kind. When Kylie vents her frustrations to an innocent employee - and the whole scene is posted online, she ends up losing her job. She returns home and soon learns that nothing is as she remembers it. The high school quarterback is now the hot and handsome sheriff. Her mother has turned her home into a nudist colony. And, worst of all, having heard about her daughter's exploits, her mother won't let her in the door until Kylie completes 50 kind acts in 50 days

The narrator Wendy Rich Stetson did a wonderful job, and was very easy to listen too. She did a great job with the different characters and their voices.

If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author. Once I started listening to this book, I didn’t want to stop until the end.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
