About this listen

In this whip-smart and timely novel from acclaimed author Kimmery Martin, two doctors travel a surprising path when they must choose between treating their patients and keeping their jobs.

Georgia Brown’s profession as a urologist requires her to interact with plenty of naked men, but her romantic prospects have fizzled. The most important person in her life is her friend Jonah Tsukada, a funny, empathetic family medicine doctor who works at the same hospital in Charleston, South Carolina and who has become as close as family to her.

Just after Georgia leaves the country for a medical conference, Jonah shares startling news. The hospital is instructing doctors to stop providing medical care for transgender patients. Jonah, a gay man, is the first to be fired when he refuses to abandon his patients. Stunned by the predicament of her closest friend, Georgia’s natural instinct is to fight alongside him. But when her attempts to address the situation result in incalculable harm, both Georgia and Jonah find themselves facing the loss of much more than their careers.

Great story about friendship

I often read more fantasy type stories, with a lot of action and some mystery. It has been a while since I read something that was just a good read. The characters were people I would want to be friends with. For me that was the best part of this. The voice actor did a great job with the narration. I hated to get to the end. I will miss the main characters.

Full approval from a female urologist in SC!

I absolutely loved this book. Such a great reflection on what it is like to be a woman in a mans world. There were so many times I thought this exact situation or fear has happened to me. I loved Georgia’s spunk and strong ethics and commitment to her friends and to her patients. Dr Martin we are in awe of you ability to capture our essence and tackle such difficult topics!

50/50

The positives - great narration ! Humorous character (Jonah, he deserves his own book ) Timely message, if a bit preachy, about sexual discrimination. Interesting medical background I incorporated into the plot.
The negatives - rediculous plot, over-the-top characters, mushy romance, too tidy ending.
So, a 50 /50 rating. Entertaining but not memorable.

A timely story, 5 stars

A truly timely story about friendship, loyalty, and truth. I loved the way the writing weaved the character’s stories together. I could really feel the love and friendship and bond between Georgia and Jonah. Parts were sad, parts were funny, parts were truly touching. I loved the way the author was able to convey deep stories to some currently polarizing issues in our society (namely LGBTQ rights, healthcare, and mental health). I felt like she did a considerable amount of research to be able to tell a tasteful, meaningful surrounding these issues.

The first half was a little slow and at the time i felt parts were being over-told and that there was a lot of “fluff” all to find out later it was all very purposeful and meaningful in the larger context of the story. The larger storyline was so smart, complex and had me total fooled, which kept me hooked. The narration was wonderful. My only complaint (and this is total personal preference) is that I wish it would have been written in the first person. In third person there were many parts I got confused by the POV we were hearing and felt the story would have come across a little more clearly had it not been told from the third person POV. Totally able to overlook that though.
