About this listen

The fourth and final book in The Galactic Cold War series sees Simon Kovalic and his crew on another life threatening adventure.

On the heels of the terrorist attacks on the planet Nova's capital, the Special Projects Team finds itself targeted by the ambitious new head of the Commonwealth Intelligence Directorate, Aidan Kester. When Kovalic and General Adaj are arrested on charges of treason, Tapper, Brody, Sayers, and Taylor are forced to go on the run. While Kovalic and the general attempt to uncover an Illyrican mole within the Commonwealth's intelligence apparatus, it's up to the rest of the team to clear their friends' names, even if that means making a deal with an old enemy to carry out a daring heist that might just get them all killed.

It's always a monumental task to wrap up a book series. Sometimes the author finds too many loose threads to wrap up, rushes to tie everything together, or can't manage to find a satisfying conclusion.

This is not the case with Dan Moren's Armageddon Protocol.

For those who've been following along with the adventures of Kovalic, Taylor, Tapper, Brody & Sayers, you'll be treated to a satisfying conclusion to the dire situation in which the crew finds themselves embroiled at the end of the Nova Incident, and yet... there's still just enough wiggle room to perhaps find something more in the future, should the opportunity arise to revisit the rag-tag band's adventures.

The story is pretty good. Not my favorite in the series but still a good story.

The “audio” part of the audiobook leaves a lot to be desired. The narrator/reader did a good job. I don’t really have any problems with Victor Bevine’s reading. The production quality is, frankly, crap. The EQ mix on the audio is off, I had to have the whole book cranked on full volume just to hear the subtleties in the reader’s voice. Parts of the audio sound like terrible ADR work. There are dozens or awkward silences where the editor clearly spliced two different takes together but left 3+ seconds of silence in the middle of a sentence.

I gave the Performance category 3 stars because I don’t want some automated system to take it out on Victor. If I could separate out “reader’s performance” and “production quality” they would get 4.5 stars and 0.5 stars respectively.

Decent story let down by bad production
