About this listen

A Chronicles of St Mary's short story that is sure to entertain. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

It's not easy being a rebel.
So many new skills to assimilate.
Never mind strategic planning, weapons expertise and the like - there's bicycle-stealing, oil-stain removal and boat steering to be mastered first.
And quickly.

It's the time of the Civil Uprisings and two young women set out to make a difference.
Their only problem?
They don't know where they are.
Or where they're going.
Or what to do when they get there.
Other than that ...

Fans of St Mary's will enjoy this glimpse into the past of some of their favourite characters.

Oh My Heavens...

This was a ridiculously off point book and yet I cried during it. Not a St. Mary's story but quite lovely.

Another worthy St Mary's backstory

We all wanted to know about the oft referenced Battersea Barricades. Great story and insight into a few of our favorite St. Mary's supporting cast of characters, and of course the brilliant narration of Zara Ramm.

Thank you, Jodi Taylor! Well done!!

From nearly the beginning of my journey with the happy historians of St Mary’s, there has been this lingering, unanswered question: Why is the battle of the Battersea Barricades so important to the back story. Now, Jodi Taylor has written, and Zara Ramm has brought to life, the answer.

And what a story it is! Crisply written in her wonderful style, so human and interesting, it adds to the humanity of the staff of St Mary’s. And Zara Ramm is so much the Max that we know and love from her narration that she is Max, at least to me.

I’m a combat veteran, a Marine, and this is so much like so many of our reunions that I was right their in the room with the gallant heroines of Battersea Bridge. Well done, indeed.

Review is the key

The story triumphed in the end but just know this is a REView- a remembrance by several special ladies of times past. I appreciate the author spreading her style wings but it’s sort of epistle style, and thats not my favorite. Still, I’m sad my latest St. Mary’s binge is over, and in the end this story had heart.

Shock and Awe

The Battersea Barricades have been mentioned in previous books in this series and I have wondered what happened there. It was clear that it was an immensely important event for this series and that three elderly ladies from St. Mary's had been involved. In this short story I found out what happened, and it is amazing.

This story is not humorous. It is intensely moving - almost mesmerizing. I had tears in my eyes for the last ten minutes. Jodi Taylor does an excellent job writing this serious story and Zara Ramm does her usual excellent job at narrating it.

Incredible story + performance. Full spectrum of emotions and I cried at the end. A lot of humor and something to consider also.

just what the series needed

finally, a background story that explains the world that the series lives in. it shows the history behind the series through the reminiscing of three exceptional women.
