About this listen
Gilbert Morris has written more than 80 inspiring novels, many of them best sellers. In this epic work, he and his co-authors use Biblical truth and powerful allegory to offer a new way of thinking about the end times. In the year 2050, the U.S. government rules that humanity is nature’s worst enemy and herds all of its citizens into a few overcrowded cities. An insidious new version of Germany’s Third Reich, led by an indestructible madman, infiltrates the White House and uses an electricity-eating virus to plunge the nation into darkness. Except for a handful of God’s chosen people, who are converging in the hills, the entire nation lies on the brink of chaos.

Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

End of sorrows!
If I was to READ this book I would have put it down on the third chapter. The story line is very long winded, and on some points Redundent. I did however follow it to the end. I did get into the charetures in the story and have ponderd long on the ideas brought up about how our walk with God can be lost in the living. If you are one who likes to read between the lines this is not the book for that. If you are one who likes to ponder others point of view this is a PERFECT resouce to that end.
Over all I enjoyed the reading, Paul brought a lot of feeling to this book that I would not have felt.

It was a stunning story, though I hope you are writing a 2nd part. However, you could have dated this one 25 years earlier, as I believe the Rapture will have happen, absolutely latest then - Come, Lord Jesus! Come!

VERY COMPLEX - CONTENT DOESN'T MATCH THE TITLE
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I don't know of anyway to take a book like this and make it enjoyable. It's complex, jumps from character to character, scene to scene, To me it was all jumbled up and made very little sense.
It was a big letdown to me as I really like and respect all of the other books I have read by Morris.
I kept waiting for the content to match the title, and it never diid (some three hours into it, when I quit)
I thought for a long time that the content must be for another book and there was a mistake in my download. I never could figure out of this was true or not?
What was most disappointing about Gilbert Morris’s story?
I was looking for the content of the book to match the title. That's why I bought it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Paul Hecht’s performances?
Paul's reading was great!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Beginning of Sorrows?
In my four hours of listening, in disbelief, I would have cut it all.
Any additional comments?
I don't know if the content ever matched the title. I couldn't stand listening for another 10 hours to see.
I hope someone else can listen to this book and write a better review. I would rather think that it was me than the author.
