Interesting premise

The plot is interesting, but starts to get a bit muddled near the end. Some scenes (mostly near the end) have unusual pacing that was hard to follow. Still, worth listening to. I would like to see more from this author, and see then improve with practice.

Very intriguing book!

This one started so well - I really wanted to know what happened to Yfrie . . . then, with Jax and their meeting -- and how Jax is the answer to a prophecy . . . well, I was pretty hooked. Then . . . things sped up.

The beginning third of the book was so well done -- the interactions with the characters was lively and real -- like Jax and her brother were real people -- the descriptions were particularly good -- I felt I was actually in the world. . . .

By the second third of the book, things seemed to get rushed -- things happened and the characters went "oh well" and went on in various new directions . . . the last third of the book seemed even more rushed -- I would have loved a little more time to absorb what was going on and why. And then it ended -- on almost a cliffhanger . . .

This isn't to say I didn't enjoy the book -- I did. I love the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) humor the author puts in all of her writing -- this book was no exception . . .

The performance portion overall was pretty good -- there wasn't much of a vocal difference between the characters, so I really had to concentrate to know who was saying what.

Overall - I feel this has set us up for a sequel -- one that I will be happy to read/listen to . . .

Fast-paced and exciting

I have never finished an audiobook so quickly - and then been so sad it was over too fast!

This is one of the best fantasy stories I’ve listened to in a long time. I was hooked right from the beginning. Crossovers between a magical universe and our own world are among my favorites, and this one did not disappoint. I’m also a sucker for the exact type of strong women in this story.

Neither Yfrey nor Jaques are perfect, and they aren’t buff women with superpowers, unless you count their ability to use magic to their advantage. They both have a bit of a past, and part of the story is coming to terms with their own histories while attempting to save Yfrey’s world from a tyrant. It’s brilliantly done. There’s enough world building to help us understand how each woman has some degree of culture shock, but it’s not so in depth as to be dull or detract from the storyline.

The narration is brilliant. It’s smooth and clear, and I loved all the different voices of the characters. The narrator and story are an excellent match.

All in all, this is just so well done.
