Publisher's summary

On its surface, The Book of Five Rings is a book by legendary swordsman Miyamoto Mushashi on his life and experiences and on the practice of martial arts in general and his Niten Ichi-ryu style of swordsmanship in particular. In actuality, however, this volume is far more than that. The concepts he advocates feature remarkably broad potential application, whether in war, in business, in other forms of leadership and competition - or simply in ordinary day-to-day life.

This AOG edition of The Book of Five Rings includes the full text of Musashi's original work, along with supplemental study and discussion materials after each chapter.

Be the Musashi!

This is a great book that should be read by every martial artist throughout the practitioner's life. It was nice to listen to it in this format.

The Way: the Strategy of a Martial Artist

This is the third time I've listened to this audiobook. To be more precise, it's the third audio version of this book that I've listened to- a book that originally produced in the 1600's, long before Audible, Amazon or the Internet!

This audiobook is all about the strategies of an effective martial artist.

This book is a must-read (listen) for any serious martial artist. Every time I listen to this book, I get more out of it. It truly is an amazing and wonderful book whose oncepts become more clear with each listen. Also, the information contained in the book can be applied to a number of different areas in life besides fighting.

Something that is unique about this rendition of the book is the fact that there are study and discussion questions at the end of each chapter-I thought this was a great idea.

At first, I didn’t care much for the narrator-he sounded too like a parody of Captain Kirk from Star Trek. However, after the first few chapters, the narrator stopped speaking this way and he sounded fine.

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

A good set of tenants to live by

I think some illustration might compliment the text, but it was easy to envision. I have voluntarily left this review after requesting a copy from the publisher.

Interesting

The classic book on strategy that transcends martial-arts. This book helped me focus on the process of facing adversity in a way that would facilitate personal growth. I tried to reflect on this when I felt like just giving up. Highest recommendation.

A Great Guide to Swordsmanship

Although it is more technical and less easily adapted to general life skills than The Art of War, Mushashi's book is an interesting treaties on swardsmanship and generally war strategy and definitely a worthwhile read for anyone interested in Japanese martial arts or who hopes to write fiction that needs to describe sword fights or other hand to hand combat.
I enjoyed it.

Excellent version of Musashi

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I've wanted to read Musashi's Five Rings for a very long time, but I haven't had the time to really delve into the written copy. This audiobook is an excellent way to listen to Musashi's philosophy as I work on other things. I can't speak highly enough of the literary content.

It helps a lot that this version is annotated, which has been a huge help to me.

The narrator speaks clearly and comprehensibly, and I couldn't ask for better. I'll definitely get more books from this narrator.

Not Suited to Audio

I received a review copy of this audiobook.

The performance was fine. The book itself is a classic of martial strategy. The discussion questions were helpful. Unfortunately, I do not think that any audio version of this book would do it justice.
