About this listen

When a mysterious book is unearthed from the foundation of Jake's 1823 fixer-upper, she immediately sends it off to local book historian Horace Robotham. After all, there must be a logical explanation for why the long-buried volume has her name in it - written in what looks suspiciously like blood. But all logic goes out the window when the book disappears - and Horace turns up dead.

When two more victims turn up in a town better known for its scenic views and historic homes than its body count, Jake and her comrade-in-sleuthing, Ellie White, need to go on the prowl to find someone who may believe the pages of an ancient book are the blueprint for a perfect murder.

I have listened to the whole series, and the ending of this one was really the most fun of any of them. I highly recommend it!

Such a fun ending!

I love how there’s no swearing or explicitly sexual material in Sarah’s masterfully crafted tales

The Book of Old Houses.

To much information given concerning bath tub. Felt like it drug the story down. Overall good story.

I like the series so much that I become irritated that she hasn't written other books covering topics I would love to hear about like the death of her husband or her wedding. The story is unconventional in what it chooses to focus on

solid story telling

Sarah Graves has written another great installment in The Home Repair Is Homicide Mystery Series. All the characters from previous stories were present in this one as well. Lindsey Ellison once again brought it all to life.

I have been enjoying the series but this book irritated me more than anything else. I felt like the author switched gears on some of her characters and didn’t follow their history from prior books. I kept yelling at the book as it progressed!

Not one of my favorites

Excellent and unusual book. The narrator did a superb job reading the story making the listener feel like she were telling it from first hand experience. Plus the home repair tips were useful. Well done.

Where to start? I can’t finish this book. I tried. I am over halfway through, but for me (I am sure there are some who like his writing style), it was a lot of unnecessary detail and rambling on with many off topic bits thrown in here and there. The whole thing was a long conversation between the main character and various people in her life. I really wanted to like it but just couldn’t get into it. I hate to give negative reviews on something as subjective as fictional stories, but I don’t think I will be the only one to comment. Even if the book were shorter, removing all the unnecessary detail would make it much more captivating.

I hate to be negative but…
