About this listen

An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Three sisters' secrets collide in a shocking novel of suspense by the bestselling author of the Mercy Kilpatrick series.

Twenty years ago Emily Mills's father was murdered, and she found his body hanging in the backyard. Her younger sister, Madison, claims she was asleep in her room. Her older sister, Tara, claims she was out with friends. The tragedy drove their mother to suicide and Tara to leave town forever. The killer was caught. The case closed.

Ever since, Emily and Madison have tried to forget what happened that night - until an eerily similar murder brings it all back. It also brings FBI special agent Zander Wells to the Oregon logging town. As eager as he is to solve the brutal double slaying, he is just as intrigued with the mystery of Emily's and her sisters' past.

When more blood is shed, Zander suspects there's a secret buried in this town no one wants unearthed. Is it something Emily and Madison don't know? Or aren't telling? And Tara? Maybe Emily can't bear to find her. Because when Tara disappeared, she took a secret of her own with her.

The storyline was great, but the male narrator was very irritating as he tried to impersonate female voices. it was quite insulting. There were some one liners and word context that would be hard to imagine anyone actually saying. Overall, the book itself was very good. It would be hard to believe that family's keep those kind of secrets.

Loved the book, with a few exceptions....

This is a hard four-star book. The author did her research regarding archaeology and forensics science. I would’ve liked to have seen the romantic side in depth more it did end on a good note.

Suspenseful read

I admire Ms. Elliot’s effort to portray a town struggling with its racist history, even though the results are quite uneven. Let’s just say I wouldn’t recommend this novel to my Black friends who are likely to find the portrayal of racism clunky and naive. But for racism to be treated as motivation in a thriller is kind of a little bit woke. The narrator was okay except somehow he made most of the secondary female characters sound prissy and snippy, which wasn’t necessary or indicated, so I took off a star there.

Ambitious

I really enjoyed the story but the narration kind of turned me off. I don’t know, the voices sounded fake or just didn’t go well. It was also a little slow at first and there were times I wanted to turn it back in as unfinished but so glad I didn’t. It was a really lovely story 💜

Great Story

This is a good book that could have been great with the right narrators. It's not a criticism of them. I'm sure they would be perfect for other books, just not this one.

Entertaining story let down by the wrong narrators

I have been venturing out and exploring different genres, this was definitely a new and unexpected experience. The narration was spot on and I felt they did an excellent performance. The book in itself was mediocre, there were twist and turns that I wasn't expecting so that was nice, however there was this illusion of a love story that definitely felt incomplete. I love the vernacular that was used, so overall I would give this book a solid 3.

Unexpected

I was interested from the beginning and the story never lagged. The narrators were very good but it should have been done by one or the other not both. Over all great reads

Excellent Read

In this time and age you think that a Killing in a small town would not happen. This story started 20 years ago end in 2020 of couple getting killed.

The Last Sister!!!

I liked the story and it kept my attention. The female narrator is very good, but unfortunately the male narrator repeatedly misses the mark. Would give it a higher rating if not for him.

Good book but did not like the male narrator

Was great to meet up with Zander and Ava agin!

I enjoyed listening to this book! It was great hearing a story about Zander and Ava again. I look forward to more in this new series. And hopefully more about the rest of the group too! The story kept you guessing and the murder as gruesome as it was, was fitting for the story line. So many new characters and new love stories and family reunions. Definitely a must read/listen to that once you start you won’t want to stop!
