About this listen

Avery James has her life planned out: This summer she'll work with a humanitarian program in Costa Rica, next year she'll graduate at the top of her class, and after that, college and medical school. Perfect, planned, total order.

The only problem: Getting the rest of the money she needs for the trip before the deadline. Hannah Cohen, her biggest competition for the valedictorian title, makes an unexpected offer: If Avery can win over Zac Greeley and make him break up with Hannah before the end of the school year, a check for five hundred dollars is all hers. Faced with the prospect of spending yet another summer working as a giant hot dog, it's an offer Avery can't refuse.

Zac is nothing like Avery expected. Within his chaotic world of midnight slushie runs and spontaneous dance parties, her total order is quickly falling apart while Hannah seems poised to get everything she wants. But just how much is Avery willing to give up for the perfect, planned life?

A refreshing YA novel!

If you could sum up The Boyfriend Thief in three words, what would they be?

Funny! Smart! Heartfelt!

Which character – as performed by Bailey Carr – was your favorite?

I loved all of the them! The narrator made fun choices that surprised me and kept me listening. It was always easy to tell which character was speaking. Probably Zac was my favorite - he was so lovably disheveled! Bailey Carr's voice fit these characters perfectly!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I'll admit it, I cried! The main character Avery grows so much. She is hard to love at first because she is so guarded and sharp, but once I started to hear her unravel and get to know her story, I really cared for her in the end. She is both fiery and vulnerable. I loved listening to her tick of nervously reciting all of the bones in the hand to calm down. Many of the characters made me laugh out loud! It was a great listen that encourages girls not to blame themselves for broken families and to have goals and aspirations.

Midnight Slurpy runs ... so much fun!

Avery has a plan ... she is well organized. Zac is her complete opposite and dating her rival Hannah Cohen. Hannah offer Avery a deal that she just can't refuse... Steal Hannah's boyfriend. Avery is the caught off guard by Zac's ability to allow her to feel free. This is a great story with lots of drama and surprises. I really enjoyed the characters and the roller coaster of emotions as Avery finds herself. Bailey Carr did a wonderful job of bring all the characters to life and could make you feel the highs and lows throughout the book. Fabulous work!
