About this listen

The Boys and Me is the behind-the-scenes, untold story of front man and lead singer Mark Miller and his band—country music icons Sawyer Brown!

Before The Voice and American Idol, there was Star Search with Ed McMahon. In the first season, an eclectic and charismatic country-rock band called Sawyer Brown appeared on the show, taking America by storm. From ignored underdogs in Nashville to overnight rock stars from LA to New York, they swept the competition and won. Since 1984, “the boys"' legendary live shows, along with their relentless drive to stay true to themselves, have captivated faithful fans around the world.

As front man and lead singer of the band, Mark Miller’s rise to fame wasn’t exactly the path he envisioned for himself. After losing his father, Mark was raised by his mom whose solid faith and strong work ethic helped guide and shape him and his brother, Frank. With his sights set on playing pro basketball, Mark never dreamed of becoming an entertainer, especially considering he was terrified to stand on a stage. But God had a different plan. Now, forty years later, Sawyer Brown has eighteen studio albums to their name, multiple No. 1 singles, fifty-plus songs charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, and legendary award-winning videos. And they have no plans of stopping anytime soon. The band’s longevity is a testament to their strong songwriting, high-energy performances, and hard work.

This is the behind-the-scenes, untold story of Mark Miller and “the boys”—country music icons Sawyer Brown!

Best autobiography I’ve read yet!

I’ve laughed, I’ve cried and best of all I’ve learned more about my favorite band of all time! Mark Miller didn’t make this autobiography just about himself he made it about exactly the title “The Boys and Me”. Cheers to 40 more years of the best country/rock band out there!

I Never Knew

The information shared in this book allowed me to see who the band members were as people. I’ve loved the music since the very beginning, and our family has grown up listening to Sawyer Brown. The book fills in how it started for each of them and I wish I’d known Jackie Miller.
Well narrated by author and when we see Sawyer Brown in Grants Pass on August 2024 we’ll have a new perspective and admiration.

awesome story of unexpected success

I loved every second of this book and Mark Miller narrating. It was a beautiful touch. The stories of how they found unexpected fame and all the stories of how they stayed true to their Christian faith just gave me chills at times. It just goes to show that if you stand for something you don't fall for everything. I have seen Sawyer Brown three times and God willing I will see them again. Thank you Sawyer Brown!

Interesting story about a great band

Sawyer Brown has been a favorite of mine for many years. Their songs and energy are a great recipe for a very fun concert or soundtrack for a road trip. This book just adds to the fun. So interesting to hear Mark Miller’s background and the journey this band traveled over the years. If you like their music, it is interesting to hear how some of their hits came to be. Just as interesting is the faith journey of the band and how they choose to live out that faith. Highly recommend both this book and their new album Desperado Troubadours. I have found great pleasure in listening to both in recent weeks.

As I always expected spectacular!

Love every bit of it. Years ago I told my dad about this band! Told him after going to a concert Mark says he learned how to dance in a Pentecostal church! Thinking just maybe this would gain some acceptance from my Pentecostal background. My dad warned be careful the Bible talks about mockery. I replied I don’t think that is the case. When 800 pound Jesus came out I loved it. Just still knowing none of this was a mockery of God. Yo know now the level of devotion I wish I could tell my dad who has now passed on but I can’t. But I can’t wait till we all get to Heaven and I can see his face when he sees the band. lol. Both times I met the band Mark and Hobie made fun of me. It is easy. I have ‘blonde’ moments. I was taught from an early age if someone makes fun and laughs it is ok to laugh at yourself with them. That is supposed to mean they like you. Not sure that is true. But it is what I believe. Love the book, the band, and the men who make it up as well as the men and women behind it. Thank you.
