About this listen

The ghost that haunts Canterville Chase has built a marvelous career of midnight haunting. But when an American family moves in, they simply have no respect for permanent bloodstains, nightmarish chains, or ancient legends. They even throw pillows at him.

This is a charming short ghost story. It isn't gory (in fact it is more wit and sweet than anything else). I bought it through Amazon for $2 and it was very much worth it.

The narrator was good.

Charming short story

Would you listen to The Canterville Ghost [Classic Tales Edition] again? Why?

Absolutely! It was such a refreshing and fun ghost story as well as a quick example of Oscar Wilde's biting genius.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Canterville Ghost [Classic Tales Edition]?

My favorite and most memorable moments were of the Ghost trying to gain the upper hand over the Americans. Highly recommended reading.

Have you listened to any of B. J. Harrison’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not, but it would be a pleasure to listen to another of B.J. Harrison's performances. Well done!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Fiendishly frolicking foibles featuring foreigners and phantoms...

Any additional comments?

Loved this fun little gem!

What a treat!

The narrator changed at least two words from the text, one in the verse, even. A couple of voices seemed a bit forced to me, but otherwise excellent.

Very good performance overall.

The story and performance make this worth a listen. I’ve listened to it five or six times now and it never gets old. I recommend listening with family during a road trip.

Delightfully amusing!

I watched this first as a movie as a young girl. I was fascinated by it and was excited to listen to it as an adult. I was pleasantly surprised that Disney didn't veer off too much from the original. It makes for a great book to listen to as well.

A fun book to listen to while woeking

Oscar Wilde has a way with making engaging stories and this is no exception. A good blend of humor and charm, with great narration, I definitely recommend this short!

This reading is my first exposure to the Canterville Ghost. I assumed I was in store for another Woman In Black or House On Haunted Hill. Rather I was pleasantly surprised with a haunting through the eyes of the ghost! It was funny and slightly sad, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm thinking it would make a great Halloween family listen! I highly recommend!

Pleasantly Surprised!
