About this listen

Anty Boisjoly takes on his twistiest test to date in a tale of curses and crows, crypts and conspiracies, concealed corridors and clever crimes, delivered with a strong overpour of locked-room murder and buoyant Boisjoly banter.

The ancient curse of Carnaby Castle has begun taking victims again—either that, or someone’s very cleverly done away with the new young bride of the philandering family patriarch, and the chief suspect is none other than Carnaby, London’s finest club steward.

Anty Boisjoly’s wits and witticisms are tested to their frozen limit as he sifts the superstitions, suspicions, and age-old schisms of the mediaeval Peak District village of Hoy to sort out how it was done before Carnaby’s served his last scotch-and-soda.

The humorous drawing room detective story you need

1st off all subsequent novels need to have Buns in them. Fascinating and humorous this novel is like Shakespeare in that it is best to have it performed, which the narrator does an excellent job without being cartoonish. Word play and cunning clues with a denouement that is reasonable and wraps up all the issues. A funny, enjoyable and satisfying novel.

Full of twists and turns

Another enjoyable audio book in the series. Like previous books, this was full of twists and turns in the relationship of the suspects and plots. I did have a harder time following the narration at some point regarding the castle layout and the secret tunnels. It would be easier on a book version.
Narration was spot on, with the perfect voices and tones for all the characters.

What's not to love?

I look forward to every book in this series. The narrator is excellent, the storyline is well built, and the main character, Anty Boisjoly, is delightful!

Great Series!

Hilarious, sardonic fun I love this series. Tim Bruce was excellent, his performance was perfection.

Just plain fun

I just love this series. Lighthearted, funny, and filled with wordplay. Tim Bruce is an excellent narrator, and I can’t imagine taking in these stories in any other format. I hope they continue to work together for a long time.

I hope he writes 40 more.

Insouciant, charming, and just complicated enough to keep you guessing (with endings that tie up events neatly). Unlike the Inspector, I could listen to Anty's anecdotal antics all day! I truly hope the writer continues this series.

Did not disappoint.

Need more. This cozy mystery doesn’t get old. Narrator is on par as normal. Story full of twists as usual.

Absolutely my kind of humor

There isn’t a moment that “Anty” isn’t making a funny snarky remark. One of my few favorite humorous/witty detective stories.

Narrator is perfect personification of the primary characters. Story is light but interesting. I truly was not paying much attention to the plot as I was focused on the dialogue. I usually attend to audiobooks about 85 -95% of the time. I was constantly rewinding to catch up with the story.

I agree with one other reviewer: “Please sir, can (we) have some more?”
