Publisher's summary

When Perry Mason and Paul Drake ran the ad, all they were hoping for was a clue to the identity of a hit-and-run driver. The first reply looked suspicious. It said that the license number of the wanted car was written down in the notebook of a woman who could be out of her apartment from two to five on a certain afternoon, and a key to the apartment was enclosed.

"Could this letter," Mason asked Della Street, "have been written by the woman herself? I want to get the feminine angle." Della laughed. "There aren't any feminine angles - they're all curved." Fast curves.

From the very first time Perry met the voluptuous blonde, Lucille Barton, she pitched him trouble. She lied about her past, about her many marriages, about her gun, and about her boyfriends. Then the murders began. And the cops turned up with evidence which pointed clearly to one person as the killer - Perry Mason!

Resolution a bit convoluted

I enjoy these Perry Mason audio books. Sometimes, as with this one, the resolution requires a lot of explanation and isn't something I would get without it, but it's still an enjoyable two hours.

Kept me wondering

I really enjoy these Perry Mason series narrations by Alexander Cendede.
Although this plot was intriguing, it needed the explanation at the end to tie all the threads together.
I love how the relationship between Mason and Lieutenant Tragg develops.

confusing

I just finished, & I will have to listen again. They introduce a whole other crime that was never as much as alluded to, as motive for the 1st crime. Perry isn't just an amazing atty., but also omniscient, apparently. I still enjoy the read, the camp, & the mood.

Great book, good narration

The Cautious Coquette is one of Gardner’s best mysteries. With an intricate plot and intriguing characters, it is a great read. The narrator does a credible job. His variety of male voices is passable but all of his females sound remarkably similar if not ridiculously repetitious. Overall, the book is a decent audio read.
