Rather disappointing

What did you like best about Perry Mason and the Case of the Curious Bride? What did you like least?

I am a real fan of Perry mason's stories by E. S. Gardner. But.. The dramatized version is not exactly what I expected.

Would you be willing to try another book from Erle Stanley Gardner and M. J. Elliott ? Why or why not?

I would like to try a BOOK rather than that sort of imitation.

How could the performance have been better?

Actually, this seems to be easy. Just have the book narrated by any of excellent performers like Kit Flanagan, Candy Clark, David Ackroyd, and there are plenty of others.

Do you think Perry Mason and the Case of the Curious Bride needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No.

Excellent short story

I was looking for the books, found these short dramatizations instead. They are excellent, but I wish they were longer.

Perry leaps into the fray

Where does Perry Mason and the Case of the Curious Bride rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This radio play is fun and confusing. The author introduces many characters in a short time, so for listening it gets a bit busy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My reaction to the book was to wonder how far Perry Mason will go when he can't be that certain, is told so many lies, has so many conflicting issues to deal with. It is a wonder he didn't just sit out the rest of his law career in jail.

Very entertaining!

Love the style and Perry's personality. It's even better than the old TV show. Actors are great and there are some laugh-out-loud moments when Perry gets over on someone or dies some sneaky shenanigans.

Perry's on the case......

If you could sum up Perry Mason and the Case of the Curious Bride in three words, what would they be?

Only, Perry Mason ! However, it takes the whole cast to make anything work. Even in real life.

What did you like best about this story?

How Perry Mason figured out the case !

What does Jerry Robbins and The Colonial Radio Players bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They bring life to the characters ! As to not knowing what that person might sound like at that point in a story !

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I could not stop listening. I just had to know, who did it !!

Disappointing

I understand that a radio version of a novel must be an abbreviated version. Having read the novel, I found this adaptation to be a lukewarm representation. Jerry Robbins as Perry Mason does not convey the fighter imagery associated with Mason. The modified plot came across as disjointed with some key parts of the novel either omitted or glossed over. This is evident upon listening to the dialogue between characters. In fact, this radio edit seemed a touch schizophrenic combining elements from the novel and the Perry Mason TV episode. The other actors were generally not believable in their roles with the exception of the actors playing the parts of the Judge and Carl Montaine. I’m sorry I bought 3 of these radio plays one time instead of just purchasing one and listening to it. Maybe I will lucky and the other 2 will be an improvement.
