About this listen

A novel based on Season 4 of the critically acclaimed TV series

From the fate of John the Baptist to Jesus’ profound teaching on inexhaustible forgiveness, in this fourth installment of The Chosen series, we grieve with Jesus’ followers at an unspeakable loss, traverse with them “the extra mile,” face down the Pharisees, and witness an impossible miracle.

As religious leaders conspire to put an end to His ministry, His renown, and His very life, Jesus' followers wonder at His ominous parables and pronouncements.

Beyond retelling the familiar accounts, Upon This Rock sees Simon become Peter and takes us to the innermost thoughts of the major players in the greatest story ever told.

Based on the acclaimed TV series The Chosen, the life of Jesus gets a fresh, new telling in this novel series from New York Times bestselling author Jerry B. Jenkins.

The variety of ways the disciples approached Jesus.

The humanity of the disciples, as they followed the Son of God. Knowing who he is and not understanding what he says and how he goes about the ministry. In direct contraction with the leaders of the church.I would not be able to cast stones at any of them,.We live in a horrible time in history to stand up and proclaim God's goodness, and expect not to take sides.
Yet the word says " The darkness will get darker and the light shall shine brighter. " We must shine our lights into the darkness we live in.
Amazing story to give glimpse s of how it might have been.

Improved Narrator

I believe this is the best narrator so far for this series. Loved the more Middle Eastern sounding accent!

Love the series

I was really annoyed by the narrator’s use of different pronunciation of words like Ramah, Elijah etc. other than that I am watching the series and listening on audiobooks I love it!

The narrator’s pronunciation was bad

The narrator mispronounced many names that are clearly used in the TV series - very annoying!

Gripping

Difficult to put down. Now I must search the true complete account in the Gospels.

New narrator

The story writing is thin, as in the case of the rest of the series. It’s essentially a screenplay with a tiny bit of extras here and there. As with the other novels, it’s all in the present tense, which is weird. The writing (beyond the actual screenplay transposition) is lazy and bare bones. They don’t add much to the show, that’s for sure. The SHOW is amazing, which leads to the 4 stars for most elements.

There’s a new narrator for this book. But they still haven’t checked in with the choices made in the show. Pronunciation and accent choices are still different but now we don’t have Simon Vance’s voice for at least audio continuity in the book series. Unfortunate.

Simon Vance was better

The books are always wonderful but the new narrator's pronunciation of certain word and character name was very distracting. Particularly Ramah's name pronounced differently from how it's said on the TV series is jarring.

PLEASE KEEP THE NARRATOR

I love all of these books, but Simon Vance (the previous narrator), sounds like he's about to suck your blood.
maybe I'm biased because he narrated Dracula, but I struggled with that narration.
this guy is *chefs kiss*
