Publisher's summary

Simmie Johnson was born the son of a slave. He was also a genius. After earning a PhD in physics from Tuskegee Institute, he wrote a paper outlining a theory for time travel, including plans for a time machine - called a chronocar - which was published in a scientific journal in the early 1900s. Since the technology required to build the chronocar did not yet exist, the paper and its brilliant writer faded into obscurity.

A century later, Tony Carpenter, a young Illinois Tech student, discovers the journal article and decides to build a chronocar, so he can travel back to 1919 to meet the black scientist he hopes to emulate. Unfortunately, time is not on his side.

Dr. Johnson is living in Chicago’s Black Belt with his beautiful daughter, and Tony arrives just in time for the bloodiest race riot in the city’s history.

Can Tony use the chronocar to save his new friends, or will his attempt forever alter the future he hopes to return to?

Very engaging!

The audio itself was well done; the story kept me engaged. Well done, author, Mr. Bellinger!

You can't go back

A young African American man from 2015 finds a paper about creating a time machine, and builds one and visits the author of the paper in 1919 who is also black and changes history and he keeps trying to fix it by going farther back but he never can. I like the idea of the time travel they use in this book, it is unique.

Great read or listen (Audible.com)

I like to read books as if they are movies, all in one sitting. This book was captivating and held me anticipating the next move. I had to speed up the read when I got to eager to find out what was happening. Great story for a sci-fi/fantasy junkie like myself.

A super science fiction novel

This takes the simple idea of time travel and just by changing characters, from white to black, makes this novel outstanding! It’s been a very long time since I’ve had a book blow my mind.

The Chronocar

This book, “ The Chronocar,” by Steve Bellinger was well written and listening to the Audio was well narrated by Earl Sewell.
From the beginning when Dr Johnson ran for his life and attended the University kept me intrigue. I always wondered what was his next move. Brilliant when the Author brought Tony in to build the Chronocar after reading Dr Johnson’s work on the time capsule that can bring you back.
The ending was a surprise when not only Tony but another man( White man) had done the same.
I understood why they could not go back in time after Dr. Johnson explained it but I was sad that Tony had to die.
5 stars!!!

Story Excellent! Narration not so much.

I loved the story. The narrator reads as if there is a comma behind every word in the descriptive sections. The dialogue flows well. Mispronunciation of Illinois is unacceptable. There is no "noise" in Illinois.

Excellent! A five star experience!

Is the Chronocar a Fantasy? Maybe. A Science Fiction? Possibly. A brilliant, shocking, gripping story? Absolutely! YES!! This story managed to shock me, horrify me, and fascinate me! Brilliantly written, which should come as no surprise! This IS Steve Bellinger! I loved the science fiction/time travel aspect, the hint of romance and oh my, the bit of dare I say it, delicious shivery macabre! Some might be shocked by the explicit and extraordinarily accurate depictions of racial relations in 1919 America depicted in the story, but it should be kept in mind that while at times difficult to hear, these depictions are also most certainly accurate, and more importantly, integral to the plot. And that ending, no spoilers but holy King of surprises, Mr. Bellinger, not in a million years would I have called that one! I LOVED it! I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Earl Sewell’s fantastic and authentic narration! It was perfect and added so much to the “feel” of the story! This one is the full five star package and should not be missed! WOW!

Interesting take on time travel.

I really enjoyed this book. It's hard to say exactly what I liked without having a spoiler filled review, so I won't. What I will say is that the characters are well fleshed out and the story is compelling. My only complaint about this, and it is a very minor one, is that the narrator pronounces the s at the end of Illinois. As an Illinois native, this drives me crazy. Other than that, the narrator did a phenomenal job.

Time traveling horrors

One of those stories where you know the hero is going to get into trouble yet again. He won’t heed your warnings! A groaner for sure.

The performance was in some ways very good, with a lovely voice performing separate and unique voices for the many characters. But often the reading was jerky and slow.

I received a complimentary copy and I am volunteering my opinion here. Thanks.
