Publisher's summary

When the only child of Hephaestus and Aphrodite is born as the spiritual embodiment of Temperance and Tact, Zeus commands that the new god be raised in turn by each Olympian for the fulfillment of his secret destiny. However, not all of the gods are content with this new addition to the family, as Cytherus repeatedly finds himself the target of Ares. To what lengths will the Instigator of Strife and War go to destroy this Last Son of Olympus? How can the holy power of Self-Restraint hope to win out against divine retribution?

True to mythological tradition, this book contains 20 etiological tales detailing the origins of various natural and cultural phenomena, including which muses influenced Herodotus, the nefarious purpose of the Antikythera Mechanism, why the Olympians migrated to Italy, the singular geography of the Iberian peninsula, and the founding of Stoic philosophy. These stories also provide anecdotes and insights into the characters and behaviors of the classical divinities and monsters. Most importantly, it tells the story of a boy who grew up in a dysfunctional family, a boy who learned not only what he was taught, but what he needed to figure out on his own.

OMG

A book about ancient Greco Roman gods. It may be a work of fiction but beautifully done. The narrator nailed it, the writer as usual shows his true genius. I don’t know if there was a Cytherus in the pantheon, but there should have been if he was anything like this. I will leave you with this; Buy this book, it’s worth 4 credits but it’s a steal at only one. I shall add this to my list of books to listen to every year.

Something Wonderful

In our age of stress and conflict we can certainly use an ode to the Spirit of Temperance and Tact. This author wonderfully evokes this Spirit in the life story of a god sadly missing from the Greek pantheon, and one with a suprising fate. The reader is very skilled as well, give it a listen.

Lyrical and beautiful while being a little naughty

So, I am by far no professional reviewer. In fact I wondered if I had made a bad choice because when it comes to Greek Mythos and the Pantheon my knowledge base stops short. The little I do know of gods and goddesses tends to be based, in fact, on Children's Movies and 90's action series. Yes, I know that's terrible but if you must throw fruit throw it gently the computers don't absorb rotting juices well. That being said five minutes in I was already gaining a fondness for the story and its characters. The performer gives them a delightful lilt with her wonderful voice and accent but the true humanity and validity comes from Mr. Hollingsworth himself. I couldn't be happier with this story I plan to listen to it several times and recommend it to my friends. Thank you to the author and Narrator for your words and the story of Cytherus.
