Publisher's summary

Twenty years after he conquered the underground pool circuit in The Hustler, "Fast" Eddie Felson is playing exhibition matches with former rival Minnesota Fats in shopping malls. With one failed marriage and years of running a pool hall behind him, Eddie is now ready to regain the skills needed to compete in a world of pool that has changed dramatically since he left. The real challenge comes when Eddie realizes that in order to compete with a new wave of young players, he must hone his skills in the unfamiliar game of nine-ball as opposed to the straight pool that had once won him fame. With a new generation of competitors, a higher-profile series of matches, and a waning confidence in his own abilities, "Fast" Eddie faces new challenges with unpredictable outcomes.

The Color of Money is the source of the 1986 film starring Paul Newman in the role he had originated in The Hustler.

The Real Color of Money !

This is the real sequel, to The Hustler !
A much deeper story, with great characters. The story is much truer to pool, than the 1980's film. Newman was great in the 🎥 movie and Tom Cruise, was good, except for the sillyness with the cue stick.
The narrator, does an excellent reading. So, chalk up your cue, and give it a listen!

Not as Good as The First

This felt like an aging author’s unrealistic fantasies. Parts I loved but others felt far-fetched.

Not like the movie. And that’s a good thing!

Really glad that Tevjs wrote this follow up to The Hustler. Hearing how life affected the character as he deals with being middle aged, its ups and downs, is such a great story.

If you were expecting the movie, you weren’t hustled by the book, you were hustled by the movie.

Walter Tevis is one of a kind

Loved this book just like the rest of them. Captivating storytelling. Gone far too soon.

Characters are very interesting

I really like the story because the characters were developed in such a way that made you really interested in what happened to them.

Much different than the movie but outstanding

Unlike The Hustler, there is very little commonality between the novel and the motion picture. Don’t let that deter you as you can enjoy both - I sure did. The novel is great at developing the characters and especially Eddie. I didn’t find it slow at all and found myself really rooting for Fast Eddie and Arabella. I found both characters very interesting and like-able. The narration was superb. This was a great audiobook and I’m glad I took a chance on it after some of the reviews.
