About this listen

At 27, magician Natalie Webb is already a has-been. A card-trick prodigy, she started touring at 17, took first place at the World of Magic competition at 18, and never reached such heights again. Shunned by the magic world after a disastrous liaison with an older magician, she now lives alone with her pigeons and a pile of overdue bills in a New Jersey apartment. In a desperate ploy to make extra cash, she follows up on an old offer to write a feature magazine article - on the art of cheating at cards.

But when she meets the perfect subject for her article, what begins as a journalistic gamble brings into question everything Natalie thinks she knows about her talent, and herself. Natalie is dazzled by the poker cheat's sleight of hand and soon finds herself facing a proposition that could radically alter her fortune - to help pull off a $1.5 million magic trick that, if done successfully, no one will ever even suspect happened.

With Kardos raising the stakes chapter after chapter, Bluff is a breathtaking work of suspense from a writer at the top of his game.

I was enjoying this book all the way through until the end. With all the different directions it could have gone, the ending was disappointing and just a terrible choice.

Bad Ending

I like magic and wanted to like this book, but I stopped listening after the first few chapters. I'll return this one. The main character is irritating. She is immature and irrational--yes, I know many "adults" are, but still it's not entertaining to listen about a person doing stupid and self destructive things. She claims to be a professional and wants to be respected, but then she does something stupid, then whines, gets teary and regrets her actions, and then acts with bravado and indignation and does something else stupid. And of course, she is broke, blah, blah, blah. As you can tell from this review, I just don't like this type of character. I guess I have heard too many stories like this.

Irritating main character

Spectacular narrator with a great story. Does not get any better than this. The best twist ever is the one I don’t see coming but fits perfectly within the framework of the story. More, please, Mr. Kardos!

Absolutely Brilliant

Loved this book! Characters and storyline are so well developed. A barometer for me always is whether “I care about the protagonist.” In Bluff Natalie is struggling with her life choices, but you’re always hoping the sun will shine for her just around the next corner. I agree with other reviewers....could not stop listening. Michael Kardos is a new author to me and have just downloaded Before He Finds Her. Julia Whelan has been a favorite narrator since joining Audible 2 years ago and does not disappoint with this book. Highly Recommend🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Riveting!

I loved every minute of this. It was always taking new turns and keeping me on the edge of my seat!

So many twists and turns

This novel is well written and flawlessly performed by Julia Whelan but the story is dark and the characters were too dishonest which spoiled the experience for me.

Wonderful writing but not for me!

Good story, character development was great and the story chugged along for a while and I wanted it to move faster at points, but I hung in there and it worked out to be a fairly good listen. Took it on a road trip and didn't have anything else downloaded, so it was great driving in the middle of South Dakota and listening. Mindless driving and mindless listening, it was more than OK.

Bubblegum for your mind

It’s getting difficult to find a credit worthy book. Loved this one, it’s fun, different and a beautiful twist at the end.

Loved it!

Terrific narration plus a really good story. So much better than I would have expected, and a happy find.

Pretty great - and unexpected
