About this listen
An uplifting novel about friendship, surprising revelations, and a second chance at love, from the New York Times best-selling author of The Story of Arthur Truluv.
When a group of friends in Mason, Missouri, decide to start a monthly supper club, they get more than they bargained for. The plan for congenial evenings - talking, laughing, and sharing recipes, homemade food, and wine - abruptly changes course one night when one of the women reveals something startlingly intimate. The supper club then becomes Confession Club, and the women gather weekly to share not only dinners but embarrassing misdeeds, deep insecurities, and long-held regrets.
They invite Iris Winters and Maddy Harris to join, and their timing couldn't be better. Iris is conflicted about her feelings for a charming but troubled man, and Maddy has come back home from New York to escape a problem too big to handle alone. The club offers exactly the kind of support they need to help them make some difficult decisions.
The Confession Club is charming, heartwarming, and inspiring. And as in the previous books that take place in Mason, listeners will find friendship, community, and kindness on full display.

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

This is a collection of Elizabeth Berg's most-loved Facebook posts. She was asked by many to put these short essays into book form, to create something to "take to the beach, or bed, or on an airplane". Elizabeth and her friend, Phyllis Florin, happily complied, and they hope that their offering will be as welcome as flowers in a mailbox.

Story
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Meh. Wanted to love it!
Ok. I, too, love Elizabeth Berg. Just not this book as much as her others. (Hard to top “Arthur Truluv .”) I love the women-and-friendship angle but a “Confession Club?” Not so much. Soooo many other things we women bond over than past “sins.” And … um … the author as narrator in this one? Sorry … just awful. Elizabeth BIRTHED these characters … but she reads them as if she has no idea who they are! Difficult to tell the characters apart. Monotone and plodding are the only ways to describe the narration. BUT … this was a quick, diversionary read and I will continue to give this series a chance.

Another Author Who Should Stick to Writing
I enjoyed the premise of the story. But really, once a week confession club? That was hard to believe. Elizabeth Berg is one of my favorite authors, however, someone else, like a professional reader or actor, would have done a better job.

Thankful for this collection!
These stories came into my life at just the right time. So much disturbance going on in this world, in my world. What a relief to experience problems solved with love and comradery. I also enjoyed the author's narration. Even with her pauses and swallowing, like a lovely nurse read to me.

I Confess I Loved this Book!
Listening to the author read her own words was chief among my reasons for thoroughly enjoying this book. EB has a real gift for delivering such authentic and heartfelt feelings through both her calming voice and her beautifully strung together words. Her slight pauses and swallowing only emphasized to me the feeling she was telling me a bedtime story. I loved John’s character especially but each character was so well drawn that they came to life for me.
I’ve read several of EB’s books and always found them thought provoking - I often pause to think more deeply about occasional paragraphs or chapters. I will continue to read most of her books….very enriching experience!

relaxing read
Easy book to read during this coronavirus confinement. Good to catch up with old characters.

So much wisdom in these “pages”
I love her love her love her! Her narration was excellent. There was so much in this book - phrases, sentences, paragraphs - that I read (listened to) 3 or 4 times. I copied a few things into my journal. Beautifully written. A few things reflected events or relationships in my own life & I gained new insight into them. This book has made a big impact on my life. Sounds dramatic, I know. But true.

Couldn't Finish
Book club read... It was hard to keep up with who was who. And so many weird side stories that were just odd. Performance was not the best. Another woman in the bookclub stated the narrator would sallow or inhale in the mic. You definitely heard it
