About this listen

The tiny, well-ordered seaside village of Merham holds little to interest the adventurous - except for Arcadia, the breathtaking art deco house perched above the shoreline. Attracted to this magical place, young Lottie Swift surrenders freely to its temptations and ultimately must face the hard consequences of her actions.

Years later, another young woman comes to Merham. A designer hired to make over the now-empty Arcadia, Daisy Parsons seeks a new beginning, as Lottie once did. Fleeing a broken relationship, Daisy finds refuge at Arcadia, and something more - a love she thought she would never know again.

Just Okay

Would you try another book from Jojo Moyes and/or Michelle Ford?

I love Jojo Moyes, but found it very difficult to follow the many characters that come and go without introduction when I couldn't keep track of them in the first place. Still, I have loved two other Moyes books and will eventually order all of them

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The last chapter got better.

Was Windfallen worth the listening time?

Not my favorite

Not what I expected from a Jojo Moyes book

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

no....boring book. Well written, but really I could see everything coming a mile away. The end was very unsatisfying and well, it just didn't seem to be a story worth telling.

Any additional comments?

If you've read recent Jojo Moyes (You before me-AWESOME! or One Plus One), this is NOT like that. Its very well written, but it just doesn't have the solid storyline the others have.

Good story once you put everything together

If you like a read/listen book that you have to figure out what/when heck the we’re talking about. First section was really good I was really into it, then second section they switched like you were listening to a totally different story. By the third and final section it brought both stories together. I was so confused in the second section wondering what happened to the rest of the story from the first section 🤔

Review

At first I liked the story. This one had many characters so one had to really pay attention to figure who was who at the beginning.
Once the story got on I enjoyed the love story. When the story was getting good it ends and rolls forward many years and the characters changed. One had to really struggle to figure out who these new characters were. The original love story wasn’t as developed as I would have liked. The story eventually ended by closing out all those new characters’ relationships.
I was disappointed to find out Lottie’s relationship with Guy wasn’t developed more. How did he feel seeing her? Where did he go? How did he feel? What happened to the baby? Why did he stay with his wife and not come find Lottie?
What can one do. What’s written is written.

Love and Hate relationship

I have read almost all of Jojo Moyes books. Love her way of bringing the characters and places alive. This book took me a few chapters to get into. Lots of moving pieces(characters). Sometimes it was hard for me to figure out who was who. But once i got the groove, it pulled me in. Mind you, I had to stop listening at times because the story line was making me mad and frustrated. I would be like "just tell him/her how you feel". Believe me, you will find yourself doing that throughout the book. Anyways. overall I enjoyed the book. The story made me mad, cry, laugh and happy. The story embraces heartbreak, friendship, love and forgives. Life in general.

Variety is the Spice

I love how JoJo Moyes's books aren't all the same. She produces such variety. The performance voice was not my favorite. The pitch was sometimes unpleasantly high. I did binge this title in a few days. Like life, everyone doesn't get a happy ending, but some do.

Just okay

Any additional comments?

I knew before starting this book that other reviewers had said it was not Jojo Moyes' best. I love her stories and the people in them and said, how bad could it be. It wasn't bad. In fact, it was a great story and very, very well narrated. I just found myself not liking ANYONE. Not one single character, as well-written as they were, were likable. Not even Lottie. In fact, the only character I cared about was a minor one, Frankie. Everyone else was long suffering and made the people they loved miserable, or at the very least, not happy. I wanted to root for someone. Anyone. Instead I found myself saying on too many occasions, 'Why would you do that!?'

A story of the quest for survival and true family

An engaging story by one of my favorite authors. I loved the interplay between two different time periods. Strong, female leads as usual for Moyes. A study in love.
