Publisher's summary
Anthony Peake is engaged in one of the most important strands of ontological inquiry of modern times, nothing less than unravelling the Gordian knot that is the mystery of our existence." (Bob Rickard, founder editor of Fortean Times)
Appearing in Greek mythology and popularized by Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, the Daemon is broadly understood as a guiding spirit which exists as one half of your split self.
In The Daemon: A Guide to Your Extraordinary Secret Self, Anthony Peake proposes that people consist of not one but two separate consciousnesses - everyday consciousness and that of The Daemon, a higher being that seems to possess knowledge of future events. Drawing upon phenomena such as déjà vu and near-death experiences, he explores the ways that our Daemon breaks through into our consciousness and can subconsciously impact upon our decisions.
From the author of Is There Life After Death?, this endlessly fascinating book draws upon the neurology, metaphysics and theology. It also follows the stories of famous figures, including Byron, Geothe, Jean Cocteau, and many others who have "felt a force outside themselves". This radical book will change the way you perceive reality, time, and ultimately yourself.

One of most important but little known concepts of Western occultism is that of the egregore, an autonomous psychic entity created by a collective group mind. An egregore is sustained by belief, ritual, and sacrifice and relies upon the devotion of a group of people, from a small coven to an entire nation, for its existence. An egregore that receives enough sustenance can take on a life of its own, becoming an independent deity with powers its believers can use to further their own spiritual advancement and material desires.

Nearly everyone is familiar with holograms - three-dimensional images projected into space with the aid of a laser. Two of the world's most eminent thinkers believe that the universe itself may be a giant hologram, quite literally a kind of image or construct created, at least in part, by the human mind. University of London physicist David Bohm, one of the world's most respected quantum physicists, and Stanford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram, an architect of our modern understanding of the brain, have developed a remarkable new way of looking at the universe.

Revealing the presence of wetiko in our modern world behind every form of destruction our species is carrying out, both individual and collective, Paul Levy shows how this mind-virus is so embedded in our psyches that it is almost undetectable - and it is our blindness to it that gives wetiko its power.

Story
We're used to thinking about the self as an independent entity, something that we either have or are. In The Ego Tunnel, philosopher Thomas Metzinger claims otherwise: No such thing as a self exists. The conscious self is the content of a model created by our brain - an internal image, but one we cannot experience as an image. Everything we experience is "a virtual self in a virtual reality." But if the self is not "real," why and how did it evolve? How does the brain construct it?

This pioneering account sets out to understand the structure of the human brain - the place where mind meets matter. Until recently, the left hemisphere of our brain has been seen as the "rational" side, the superior partner to the right. But is this distinction true? Drawing on a vast body of experimental research, Iain McGilchrist argues while our left brain makes for a wonderful servant, it is a very poor master.

Well done. You've taken a multi-dimensional
I truly appreciated the book as it provided answers and explanations to things I have seen, ideas I have contemplated, and questions I am now considering. I am a cannabis smoker and an NLP practitioner, and I would hike while listening. I've heard it three times so thus far. While dense at times (thus requiring multiple sessions), I could dream away from more challenging topics to imagine what was just spoken while coming back at other times when a specific topic or word resonates. Thank you for the time and energy you put into the work.

Case Made
Through careful examination, Peake expertly lays out the case for the Daemon’s consequential attendance throughout history of various figures of note before infusing his theory into his own life, then that of the reader. Listen to this book, then listen to your Daemon.

Fascinating and thought-provoking
I had the benefit of listening to this book during a time of personal crisis where I wasn't sure what I wanted out of life. While this book didn't provide me with a roadmap for my future, Anthony Peake's theory of the Daemon provided me with answers to questions I never bothered to ask. His theory, while well-developed and well-cited, still leaves some space for interpretation and doubt, but I have to say that this book is a compelling and fascinating read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have found myself listening more intently to my instincts, or my Daemon, as he refers to it. If you have any interest in exploring your consciousness or hearing about historical figures that have successfully heeded warnings from their inner selves, you'll enjoy this book.
