About this listen

There are dark places in this world man should never go...

Dr. David Fyne has inherited a world of nightmares. Founded by his father, the Fyne Mental Institution for the criminally insane houses some of the worst of humanity. Each day, he walks by rooms filled with brutal men and women who have committed irreversible wrongs.

The anguish of his patients inspires David to help. It is not until his newest patient Steven Phillips arrives that he begins to doubt. Steven is a monster, having killed his mother and stepfather. There’s only one thing keeping David from helping him - Steven has no memory of either the act or how he wound up in the Fyne Mental Institution.

David Fyne is about to embark on a journey of discovery and madness as he enters the mind of a killer.

Not Much Light at the End of the Hall

I honestly wasn't quite sure what the story was about. It seemed to jump around a bit and seemed to have a hard time staying with one plot. I wasn't sure what one piece had to do with the others and just when I thought the story was about one character, it shifted to another. I listened to the story twice, and while it made more sense the second time, the plot still seemed a bit erratic. I think it had potential, just didn't have a light at the end of the hallway.

Eddie Leonard Jr did a good job with the narration. I have heard him before and have enjoyed his narrations. He didn't put the energy into the story that I think authors who narrate their own stories should, but I still thought he did a good job.

This had great potential

This started out with an interesting story unfortunately it became dull and mundane.

Sometimes less is more in character development and care should be taken not to bore the listener.

There were many ways this tale could have gone terrifically suspenseful. The story was predictable, no surprises.

I often found that authors that narrate their own work do not do well at it.

Narrators are actors that can make a story come to life.

This narration was flat, had a lot of background noises, and the speech was hesitant and bland.
