About this listen

While carrying out a hit on a terrorist financier, Victor finds himself the target of an assassin who proves to be just as deadly as he is. Never one to let such a thing go, Victor sets about hunting down his attacker and those who sent her. She is Raven - a freelance assassin with a dark past and hidden agenda. If Victor wants to stay alive, he must find out who Raven really is and what she is truly after. Does she really want him dead, or does someone else want them to kill each other?

With the stakes growing higher by the minute - as a city-wide blackout plunges Manhattan into darkness - Victor and Raven must decide who is friend and who is foe before a deadly terrorist plot threatens to consume the city and them along with it.

Good but could have been better.

I love the series and the character. However, I must say Victor was kind of nerfed in this novel; perhaps, in order to make room for another: Raven. I still enjoyed the book and look forward to the next. Hopefully Victor returns to true form.

Pretty pretty pretty good

Victor once again proves he is the ultimate killing machine. Definitely got me with the ending, no doubt I wouldn’t still be alive.

Not one of Victor’s better books

Unfortunately, I slept through most of ending and I didn’t care enough to go back and listen. However, I still love Victor! Was hoping for a soulmate for him.

wow .. awesome.

I've listened to quite a few audio books over the last 10 years. Well portions of the story seemed a bit far-fetched this is easily in the top 10% of all the books that I've listened to. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Not Enough

Would you listen to The Darkest Day again? Why?

Yes. I rarely listen to/read books more than once given my preference for thrillers/suspense/mysteries. Once you know how it ends, that tends to lessen the reread value, but I love how complex Victor is. He's not your usual assassin character and it's interesting to see him address the situation he finds himself in for Darkest Day.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Raven and Victor first cross paths. I spent extra time wandering around Target finishing that scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! If I hadn't been traveling, I would have, too.

Any additional comments?

If you like suspense, if you like complex characters, if you like not knowing how things will end, read this book. Even if you don't like those things, I'd still say that you should read this book now.

A very good book

Surprised by the ending, the author has done a very great job with this character. The tragedy that is Victor's chosen life isn't easy to envision, constantly on alert, the attention to detail. I'm looking forward to finding out more about him, why did he happen down this path, what was the triggering effect.
I've told all of my friends about this character, we've already decided who should get the title role. Well done Thomas!
