About this listen

This full-cast drama, part of BBC Audiobooks' Classic Radio Sci-Fi series, is based on the classic post-war 'science fantasy' novel which made John Wyndham famous, and whose appeal endures to this day. Giles Cooper's six-part adaptation stars Gary Watson, Barbara Shelley and Peter Sallis, with appearances from Doctor Who names Peter Pratt, Christopher Bidmead and David Brierley. Divided by blindness and societal breakdown, humanity is at the mercy of the carniverous Triffids....

This BBC Radio 4 production was made and broadcast in 1968, and later transmitted via World Service.

Day of the Triffids not Actually about Triffids

It was a fairly quick finish, so it was easy to commit to, but the so-called titular Triffids did not really factor into the plot as much as one might think. It was still an interesting take on a sci-fi apocalyptic scenario, but I was hoping to see more plant action in one where plants take over the world.

Good first audio book. Loved it !

The only things I have to critics is that the transition music is very loud compare to the narration volume but other then that it was a very good story telling and a perfect tone for an old book !

great story!

This is such a classic story, and a very well done adaptation...except that it REALLY could use some tweaking in terms of the sound quality. The music is piercing and painful in relation to the speech. It really was painful when I wasn't fast enough to turn down the volume between chapters, when the music cuts in... Whoever put this out should have that adjusted.

The audible eddition of this book was fun and entertaining, just dont expect more than a NPR special presentation.
Just listen and enjoy.

I only wish it were longer

I liked this fun but very un-pc tale. It was a short listen... Less than 3 hours but if you are fan of classic sci-fi this is a must. I can really see that people have borrowed plot devices from this story to make other modern horror films.

I think I would like it if audible would narrate the novel rather than just the radio program. It might be a tad longer. Overall, great

In the dark, listen to the end of world.

The old movie of "The day of the Triffids" has always been a favorite of mine. This audio drama is different and refreshing from the movie. I have listened to it many time and still enjoy it.

Good as the book?

Having read the book and also listened to another audio narration of this classic, I was looking foward to hearing it once again.
I can say that this dramatised version would appeal to those who prefer an enacted potrayal of the book rather than an accurate literary presentation.
My evaluation of this novel is born from appreciation of John Wyndhams' writing talent rather than attempted immersion in a dramatised rendition. I would have much preferred this story to be an audio book in it's truest sense.

Pitty it's not a book

Story is amazing, but it suffers being radio play instead of just book reading.
I'm hoping for reading version in furure.
