About this listen

As the Shell House Detectives investigate a mystifying death, they discover rumours, betrayal and murder. Will a decades-old secret finally be unearthed too?

"A gripping and propulsive read, with a deliciously dark mystery at its heart."—Lucy Clarke

At Shoreline Vines, high on the Cornish cliffs, the Harper family are preparing to welcome glamorous investor Celine Chevalier to their vineyard.

They desperately need Celine’s backing to keep their business afloat. But everything is jeopardised when a body is found in one of their fields. Police believe the death was a tragic accident but the victim’s family suspect otherwise and turn to the Shell House Detectives to investigate.

As Ally and Jayden question the community, they discover that Shoreline Vines has always been shrouded in mystery. There are old rumours about buried bones, and even a curse on the land itself. Are these just local myths or is there something sinister hidden in the vineyard’s past?

As tensions reach breaking point, Ally and Jayden must uncover the truth, in a gripping story of family secrets and shocking betrayals.

Critic reviews

The Death at the Vineyard is the next instalment of my favourite cosy crime series. Told with Emylia Hall’s trademark warmth and generosity, it’s a gripping and propulsive read, with a deliciously dark mystery at its heart. Get ready to be transported to the wild and windswept shores of Porthpella.” —Lucy Clarke

“Emylia Hall gets better and better with every Shell House book. The Death at the Vineyard has it all: a grisly death, a long-buried secret, and two detectives risking it all in pursuit of the truth. This is a series that has as much heart and soul as it boasts twists and turns, all set against a stunning Cornish backdrop. A gorgeous, haunting, and riveting read.” —Emma Stonex

The Death at the Vineyard is another brilliant instalment in the Shell House Detectives series, with characters you root for and a masterfully woven mystery that keeps you turning the pages. I can’t wait for the next…” —Libby Page

Much better than what i usually find

Really an excellent mystery. I could see some network wanting to pick this up - but hopefully not because they would ruin it! The villain is such a villain! The characters are well rounded for a mystery and not just pawns. It doesn’t just end where it typically would. It lingers on the psychological vista. I would recommend. Also not overly violent really except for some forensic type descriptions and scuffles. No animals killed either- i really hate when they stoop to that trope. I am planning on listening to more when i find them.
