About this listen

Put the kettle on and discover an utterly charming new cozy murder mystery set in a sleepy English seaside town.

Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead.

Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it.

When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

With plenty of tea and cake along the way, and despite squabbles with their rivals, the Cats Alliance across the street, the Charity Shop Detective Agency is born.

Fans of The Thursday Murder Club, Janice Hallett, Simon Brett, Ian Moore, and Sarah Yarwood-Lovett will adore this exciting new talent in cozy crime.

A fantastic new mystery series

Definitely looking forward to more adventures with “The Charity Shop Detective Agency”. A storyline that moves along, interesting, well-developed characters, quite a decent mystery… Oh, and it’s funny! I laughed out loud several times at a particularly witty turn-of-phrase. Highly recommend.

Great Characters + Zara Ramm = Winner

I fell immediately in love with Fiona (hidden depths), Partial Sue (greatest nickname ever), Daisy (surprising skillz) and Simon LeBon with his "furry little body". The Cozy sub-genera is stuffed to the gills these days, and no wonder because we could all use some comfort, but sadly a lot of it is a bit slap-dash and the characters are often under(or over)developed. Not so with the crew who work at Dogs Need Nice Homes. Peter Boland has done a fabulous job in presenting us with characters so fully fleshed out that they will stay with you long after you've finished the book. There are lots of laugh out loud moments but it's all sprinkled with a bit of pathos that is really necessary for any good tale. Great story lines and the brilliant Zara Ramm as narrator make these books an absolute delight. I can't wait for more adventures.

all the characters sound the same

The mystery is pretty well crafted but the main characters are all women who have a lot of dialogue and the narrator doesn't differentiate their voices so it can be hard to follow.

hapless characters

not particularly clever or funny storytelling, or challenging for the reader, one felt they were just hindering the investigation by the police

Fabulously funny, great story,Narration BRAVO!

Laugh out loud funny, clever, great characters and narration perfection!! Only criticism is that last ten chapters were belaboured a second ending that was not needed in my opinion. Still I’ll
be listening to it again and again as well as the next two. Hoping for more from this author and narrator.

Fun

Sweet older group of ladies solving crime. Not a totally new concept, but is anything new under the sun? Engaging narration.

Zara Ramm kept me listening

The book is pretty simplistic and the characters are just as expected. I kept waiting for surprise or twist, but it never came. I've listened to Zara Ramm from Jodie Taylor books, so I thought I would give it a try. I did finish the book, but would not recommend it.

Deliciously cozy and clever

This book was a wonderful surprise! It was deliciously cozy, w safe, well - developed, entertaining characters. A surprisingly interesting mystery that is challenging and in places suspenseful. I loved the twist at the end! After reading literally 1000”s of mysteries over the years, a book which keeps me guessing is most welcome! I hope u enjoy it too!
