Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

guidance, grit, and grace for caregivers
I don’t personally know anyone with dementia, but this audiobook really broadened my understanding. It's not just another clinical guide, it’s full of real stories, helpful strategies, and an empathetic tone that makes it feel personal. The author does a great job of balancing practical advice with emotional support, which I imagine is a lifeline for caregivers. The sections on communication and managing difficult behaviors were especially eye-opening; I can imagine how much they’d help someone in the trenches of caregiving. I also appreciated the mix of personal stories and scriptures, offering not just practical tips but emotional support too. Even as an outsider, this gave me a new perspective on what caregivers go through. If you're in that role, I can see this being an invaluable resource.

My Go-To for Caregiving Advice
This book became my lifeline when caring for my dad. I was overwhelmed and unsure how to handle the emotional and practical challenges, but the advice here was straightforward and supportive. I liked that it covered real situations I actually faced, like handling agitation and burnout. The tips on self-care reminded me that my well-being matters too. I’ve referenced it multiple times, and it always helps me regain focus. Highly recommend to anyone on this difficult journey.

Gain a new perspective
There have been multiple cases of dementia in my family. Because of this, I have spent a lot of time learning an awful lot about the disease and the way it affects the person with it. However, after talking with a friend about how burnt out she was from taking care of her parent with dementia, I realized I hadn't looked enough at the way the disease affects the caregivers. This book not only opens your eyes to that issue, but gives actual useful advice on things you can do to really keep yourself going in a caregiver role, or things you can start doing to prepare to be a caregiver for someone who is likely to develop dementia.
