Great Advice!

This book was extremely helpful! If you have taken care of someone with dementia, you know how difficult it can be. I learned a ton, including that there are seven types of dementia. My favorite section was on problem-solving strategies. The narrator also has an excellent voice for the material - a joy to listen to.

Such a Great Resource

I highly recommend this book! The author has written a well researched tome for those caring for loved ones suffering with Dementia. Recently my grandfather was put into hospice and it shocked the family. This audiobook helped me rationalize the disease and sympathize with my grandfather. The book incorporates all the important aspects of the disease including how to engage with someone suffering from it, manage their behaviors (one of the reasons he is hospice) and so much more. The book is easy to understand and well narrated for an easy listen. This is a must listen.

Great Resource

Renee Phillippi has written a great book and the narration by Ann Osmond is excellent. This book is full of information that you will definitely be able to use. As a resource book when my wife and I listen together we like to take lots of notes. The narration on this book is spot on because it required very little to no rewinding or pausing during our listen. Great Job!!!

Our families have a history of dementia and/or alzheimers so my wife and i decided to listen begin researching what that might look like for us in the future. With our population aging this issue will only get worse and worse.

While we listened to this book my wife and i found ourseleves feeling releif that we were preparing ahead of time for a potential that may happen (is very likely) in our relationship. Long term care solutions need proper planning and this book gives you all that. We particularly found the section on combating behavior issues to be eye opening. We both saw the behaviors outlined in our grandparents and never thought about how we would help. This is the area we found very interesting but there is so much more like how to make dinner time easier, not forgetting to take care of yourself, to how to handle the inevitable physical changes that will also occur.

Thank you for writing this great book. We highly recommend it.

A comprehensive guide for caregivers

This book takes an in-depth look from a clinical and caregiver perspective for families to understand how patients develop dementia and how it progresses. In addition, how a diagnosis of dementia differs from other psychological or medical, or neurological problems. Part of the diagnosis is not only to determine whether it is dementia but to rule out what it is not. That is why it is important for proper medical screening, as discussed in the book. In-depth explanations of medical terms, the types of doctors you may meet, and the tests you may have.

It discusses the 7 types of Dementia and the differences between each. The author discusses scenarios for caregivers and how to handle situations, develop routines, and support the caregiver in difficult times. Also, discussing hallucinations, paranoia, and delusional thinking. She also discusses personality changes and why it happens, and how to deal with them. She gives 7 overall caregiving tips that will help you both be healthier.

Renee discusses sundowning, shadowing, safety, and nutrition. Lots of self-care for caregivers tips too! Taking care of yourself and not getting lost in the disease and taking care of yourself is key. In Addition, to end-of-life, Hospice, and power of attorney information. Plus, keys to knowing when it's time to stop your caregiving responsibilities and how to look into long-term care options.

This book contains support and in-depth information to help you and your loved one or patient have a healthier life.
As a Nurse and having family members with dementia past and present, I can relate to and highly recommend this comprehensive guide!

All you need to know as a caregiver

This has been a true eye-opener for me. It helped me to make sense of certain situations I had when I lacked the information that would have helped me to cope better. This book not only provides invaluable information, it also gives you confidence in your ability to care for someone with dementia. The tone and pace of the narrator is a fitting complement to the very impactful text.

I really appreciate the detailed explanations of the terminologies the 7 types of dementia, the differences between them, and the signs and symptoms. I found particularly impactful the section in Part III which covers self-care. Too often we overextend ourselves and it is nice to be reminded of the importance of accepting help from others, accessing respite, and taking time to look after ourselves. As everyone will at some time be a caregiver or be cared for, everyone should take hold of this information.
