About this listen

He wanted a normal life. Instead, he might end the world....

Gabriel is running out of time. Desperately clinging to his humanity, the 21-year-old half-demon is determined to deny the dark destiny his father insists he fulfill. And if he can’t exorcise the manipulative, vile thing driving him to atrocities by his next birthday, the mortal world is doomed.

Earth is the last place Aura wants to be. She escaped this nightmare once, and she definitely doesn’t want to go back just to help some monster control his urges. But her mother insists pulling off the impossible task of drawing out his light is the only way to prevent a terrifying apocalypse.

As the clock ticks down towards the day he turns 21, Gabriel finds the malefic calls to commit murder harder to resist. And though Aura is resolved to complete her mission or die trying, she can’t help but feel her mother is hiding a terrible secret.

Can the unlikely duo defeat the forces of Hell before every living thing in two worlds is destroyed?

The Demon Inside is the chilling first book in the Hell’s Creatures urban fantasy series. If you like tortured protagonists, witty dialogue, and fighting the age-old battle of good versus evil, then you’ll love Katerina Degratte’s visceral tale.

Baskerville Book Reviews

Angels, demons, shapeshifters, merpeople, vampires. Oh hell yeah, this is my thing and always has been. For the most part, the summary of this novel is what you get. I take issue with a section about the duo teaming up to take on the forces of hell. That’s a total lie. That never happens in this book. Other than that, if the summary sounds like something you’d enjoy, then you’ll like this story.

Do take note that this one is a very slow burn. The story is great, the characters are great, the sex scenes are…. there. Not a whole lot happens though. It’s mostly setup and world-building and getting you familiar with the characters. It takes its time to give you a reason to care about them.

I really didn’t like the cliffhanger ending, but I’m for sure going to continue on with this series. I get that it’s the first book in a series, but it really could have done a better job of wrapping this up and not leaving the reader feeling like there’s another handful of pages missing from the story. Other than the ending, I enjoyed everything about this story.

The audible narration was excellent. It’s a real breath of fresh air to have a narrator who acts our lines and gives unique voices to characters while not mispronouncing a bunch of basic words.

Demons. Angels. Good. The Bad.

Everyone has their demons to bear and fighting with the good within. Although The Demon Inside is definitely about a real half demon and Angels. The story is GREAT. If this is your type of thing then you will like it. If you're not into detailed sex and the constant dropping of the f-bomb. Then it might be hard to listen to. Nonetheless it's entertaining and you'll keep reading!

Fascinating premise

The Demon Inside is an excellent start to the Hell's Creatures series. The premise is interesting, a paranormal romance intertwined in supernatural conflict and battles with good versus evil. Katerina Degratte is a creative author, and the world-building is quite imaginative, demons, angels, and both. Gabriel and Aura's characters are well-developed, and the dynamics and interactions are authentic. I'm definitely looking forward to the second book in the series.

Jamison Lee Walker's reading is clear, well-paced, and portrays the characters nicely. Overall, the Demon Inside was a fascinating and enjoyable listen, one I'll recommend. I listened to a promotional copy of the audiobook, and my unbiased review above is given voluntarily.

Need to listen

This was a great listen even though it started out slow. The narrator did a good job. I think he was the perfect person to narrate this.

Very interesting read ...

The title on this one roped me in, so intriguing. The opening is yet more intriguing and the good writing doesn’t hurt.

Overall, this read was okay—I may not seek out more in this series, as I think I have the gist of it, but I will explore the author’s other works for sure, as she puts an interesting spin on some fun legends and is a good writer.

3 stars.

Note:
I listened to the audiobook; I mostly liked this narrator. His voice is hard to take but he reads and pronounces and performs well.
4-star performance. Though the production itself could’ve been a bit tighter. There was some feedback in between scenes and chapters at times.
