About this listen

The Honourable Catherine Elford - Kitty - is presented with an awful choice. Either she is cast off, penniless, by her stepbrother, or she marries the handsome Earl of Ledbury, who would be perfect were he not a serial womaniser. Ledbury has only ever courted other men’s wives and does not want a wife of his own. However, Kitty’s generous dowry, which will keep him from selling his beloved racehorses, proves too tempting.

Kitty believes her only chance of survival is to make her head rule her heart. For his part, Ledbury has spotted a spark in Kitty and sets out to woo her. But as Kitty begins to succumb to his seduction, Ledbury’s past starts to catch up with them.

Loved the narration

I love the story of the reformed rake. This was a thoroughly binge-worthy story, and I'm adding Matt Addis to my list of favorite narrators.

Excellent book!

This is a well-written story that is a cut above most Regency romances. The character development is well-done. Also, Matt Addis is the perfect narrator, and does an excellent job portraying the range of emotions the characters experience.

Fun and witty

Matt Addis does a great job with the Don Juan protagonist. Witty dialogue and well written.

Full of emotions, thoroughly enjoyable

Will listen again, one day. Clean and has some funny bits here and there. Chapter 5, from 5.6.0 to 6.7.30 is hilarious. The narrator is splendid.

Love the narrator

This is the first time I’ve heard a narration by Matt Addis and I was very impressed. He made a good story better.

The writing is good, but not much story

This is probably more like a 2 1/2 star book. I found myself getting distracted. This is kind of a one note story that for me got tedious. I enjoyed her other books more.

Did I miss something?

What did Kitty see in him that made her fall in love with him? I missed that part. She was dull; he was unlikable. In the beginning, their initial honesty made it seem like this might be interesting. But the rest was a disappointment. I liked his best friend the most. Even on sale, I regret having spent money on this.

Narrator is great. Story…not so great.

Second degree characters are more intelligent & likable. Male/female leads are idiots. He’s a cad, she’s a tease. Misunderstandings galore, then boom, a nemesis out of nowhere to pull them together. HEA BS.
