Publisher's summary

A modern-day pirate. An heiress lost at sea. And the treasure of a lifetime.

He’s beautiful. Calculating. Cruel. And he’s taken me hostage. When pirates board my boyfriend’s yacht, I jump overboard to save myself. Drifting at sea. Until one man rescues me from the endless ocean. Except he has plans of his own. I’m worth too much money for ransom. He’ll keep me on his ship and in his bed. The real danger lies in his dark-depth eyes. He wants more from me than money. Than passion. He wants everything. He rescued me, but I’m far from safe. There’s an entire sea of danger threatening to drag me under.

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by USA Today best-selling author Amelia Wilde is a dangerously sexy contemporary romance that will blow you out of the water.

Interesting concept, but it could use a content warning

Contains spoilers. The idea of the story is interesting, and something I would typically enjoy. I was prepared for the unexpected romantic, enemies to lovers idea. This was not it. The male main character repeatedly rapes and then aggressively beats the female main character. This is graphically described and the author puts a lot of emphasis on how much the male main character is enjoying her shame and pain. It was a struggle to get through it.

Amelia Wilde has caught my attention. Interesting and VERY naughty storylines. Will definitely be listening to more of her audiobooks.

Not everything is a bed of roses....!

This story is beyond different! Abuse in all it's horrid forms! You live the nightmare of the Devil and it's Deep Blue Sea. Dark, superlatively dark but I absolutely loved all of it! The Devil Trilogy says it all! This will be added to my favorites and can't wait for book 2.

Pirates of a Different Sort

If looking for a Jack Sparrow sort of pirate read, this book isn't for you. Instead our pirate is a disgruntled and pissy man whose life and livelihood revolve around his ships and the waters of the earth. When he finds an heiress bobbing in the water alongside his massive ship he reels her in to safety. Little does he know he may have been better off leaving her where he found her or depositing her at the nearest port town ASAP. However, love and fate have some different ideas on how things will go for these two. Best to just hang on tight and let the story overtake you.😄

Totally different & surprising story

Wow I really like how this story has a different twist. Geez Poisiden is very intriguing and dominant. While of course poor Ashley is a weak damsel in distress and just making poor decisions. I have to see how this end.

Slow at times but an intriguing conclusion

Overall, it was a good listen. There were times I felt the story was dragged out and we knew what the result would be. The ending was a good cliffhanger. Hoping part 2 is better.

Weak FMC. Bland MC

Story: 1 out of 5
Spice: 1 out of 5
Plot: 2 out of 5
Performance: 3 out 5

Rich Instagram model who falls for bad guy and instead of running from him (because she really should) she stays. this isn't a cat and mouse Story. it's just meh.. we spend most of the book in her head hearing her say how she needs to run from this man and how she really cannot stand him.

bad guy is a basic bad guy who tried to be morally grey but falls very short. POSiden is very much a copy paste book boyfriend. he wasn't fun or an anti-hero. he kept her captive for money, and occasionally talks about her t*ts and a**. that's it. that's the spice summed up.

Plot wasn't great. it could've been. it had moments where I was interested then it quickly lost me again. it's not a great book. not even a good book. I'd say it's a easy 4 hours if you just need background sound.

This isn't dark rom. Its straight up abuse

DNF. I love dark rom. I love dub-con when it's done right. This sh*t right here? It's neither. its straight up abuse with a pathetic h who I already know is not only going to forgive this pos in the 2nd book, but I'd bet money she's the pursuer and he's pushing even after this. I can already see ther will VERY likely be no groveling and nothing to redeem this pos.

If you hate weak heroines and irredeemable Heroes stay away from this. Far away.

I love anti-heroes. all my top favs feature anti Heroes. They have to be done right though or they turn out like this pos. Also they MUST be paired with STRONG ass women. Women who won't be a punching bag. Emotionally fortified women who are on the same level, otherwise they comes across as weak and pathetic...as the h does here.
