About this listen

A taciturn soldier and a social butterfly - is the perfect home worth the price of a marriage of inconvenience?

Blake Montague's draconian temper and clever mind belong on the Continent, decoding French communications. Instead, as the youngest son of a baron, he's terrorizing London ballrooms in search of a wife who will buy the commission he can't afford.

Jocelyn Carrington, after years of smiling through the pain inflicted by an uncaring family, has just inherited a fortune. Now she can buy the special home with an aviary her eccentric younger brother needs - but Blake Montague's family owns it. They offer the house if she will marry their son and prevent him from marching off to war. Except Blake will use her dowry to buy his commission.

How can Jocelyn gain the home of her dreams while keeping alive a courageous man with a bad habit of attracting trouble? Can Blake believe the beautiful Jocelyn might actually free him from his family's manipulations? Can this wary, cynical pair open their hearts to trust in the power of love?

Critic reviews

"Intriguing protagonists, quirky secondary characters, and a surprising plot make for an endearing sequel to...The Wicked Wyckerly." (Publishers Weekly)
"Rice takes her cast of characters - including the naughty French-speaking parrot, Percy - on a passionate, sensual, rib-tickling romance. A master of the nuances of humor, she brings joy, lots of love, and plenty of laughter to this fast-paced, unforgettable second Rebellious Sons story." (Joan Hammond, RT Reviews)
"Every character entertains and satisfies.... It's a sweet, sexy, fun romp with so much heart. I can't wait to read the next book in the series." (Anne Gracie, author of The Accidental Wedding)

I truly enjoyed this Circle of Friends. Jocelyn and Blake were a delight! Their story was was full of Romance an

d Adventure. I love all the surrounding characters. None of them are conventional. I would recommend this to family and friends!

Brilliant

To be honest, I did not think much in the beginning. But as the story went on I found myself caught up in the strength of Joslin the female protagonist. She fits so well with Blake, even though their personalities are so far apart. Fun, witty and intriguing book. I fully recommend.

A solid entry in this series!

I enjoyed this second entry in the series. Blake and Jocelyn each have personal issues to overcome, and eventually (finally!) they were able to come to an understanding. The secondary characters were there in full force (with appearances by Fitz and Abby). Instead of adorable children, we had adorable animals. All in all, a satisfying, well-plotted story. On to the next one in the series!

Romance on the Spectrum!!!

Delightful and charming. Unique in it's characters. This is a romance of spectrum people w special brains in a time when such things aren't thought to exist. It both shines a light on the modern spectrum romance reader while believably includes a spectrum romance story solidly in the genre.

2nd in series was better than first.

appreciated that 2nd in series got interesting right away.. and less rambling about clothes. Author writes about humorous situations.. the Passion abounds but not overtly..

Very witty!

I read this (2nd book in a series) without knowing it was a series. I thought it delightful. Enjoyed the humorous bickering (without malice) between the H and h. Good main character and supporting character development. I’ll back track to read the prequel and book one. Loved Blake’s humor about his family and how he tried to avoid his mother. I recommend this book and think I’ll like the entire series.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the book. The narrator did a decent job. I have heard some terrible ones Eliza Jane Cornell did just fine.
I do prefer male narrators though.

Like the way the characters fit

The author doesn’t take two people and make them fit together just out of the blue. Opposites they may seem to be but what each offers is just what the other needs. Loving and humorous. Well done.
