Publisher's summary

American heiress August Crenshaw has aspirations. But unlike her peers, it isn't some stuffy British lord she wants wrapped around her finger - it's Crenshaw Iron Works, the family business. When it's clear that August's outrageously progressive ways render her unsuitable for a respectable match, her parents offer up her younger sister to the highest entitled bidder instead. This simply will not do. August refuses to leave her sister to the mercy of a loveless marriage.

Evan Sterling, the duke of Rothschild, has no intention of walking away from the marriage. He's recently inherited the title only to find his coffers empty, and with countless lives depending on him, he can't walk away from the fortune a Crenshaw heiress would bring him. But after meeting her fiery sister, he realizes Violet isn't the heiress he wants. He wants August, and he always gets what he wants.

But August won't go peacefully to her fate. She decides to show Rothschild that she's no typical London wallflower. Little does she realize that every stunt she pulls to make him call off the wedding only makes him like her even more.

Contains mature themes.

Love Story

I was gripped from beginning to end. Unlike some romance novels, Heiress Gets a Duke never lagged. I was so hooked I read from chapter 6 to the Chapter 24 in one sitting!

What a BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY!

I've never listened to this author (at least that I can remember), but OH! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY! American Heiress who in the 1800's works in her family empire & loves it (tho woman working were not the thing) & w/her family vacations to London. There she meets a broke Duke who must marry an Heiress-but that is when I'll stop. This story takes you in to many
twists & turns that up to the very end you are guessing. And the end if worth it!! Every woman's dream - to be so loved!

Perfectly proper rollercoaster

It seems getting together was never as fraught with pitfalls as the “courtship” of Evan and August. Unlike other American heiress tropes this story does not rely on pronunciation, fashion, or cultural speed bumps but keeps it human by circling around relatable conflicts like motives for marriage, catty bullying, manipulative parents, and insecurities. On the surface it’s about money, but really it’s not.

GREAT NARRATION

AUDIBLE EDITION!!
American Heiress August Crenshaw is determined she will not marry the improvised Duke of Rothschild, Evan Sterling.

I didn't like August. She was a bit to mean to Evan, He treated her with kindness and respect, and she was always so mean to him even though she loved to kiss him. The couple doesn't come together until the end of the story. Evan finds out that he is not improvised and that he doesn't need August family's money. But he loves her. The end was pretty good!

Audible Narration was very good!

Good story but the reader…

Hard to focus with the voice ending each sentence by going higher up the scale

Very cute.

Interesting and cute story. Well written. Great characters. Nice plot. Really shows the differences between British upperclass society and American upperclass society in the late 19th century. We Americans have always been upstarts not following the rules.

I really enjoyed this!!

Great story and the narrater did a fabulous job! I do think this narrater's men's voices sound a little old but otherwise, the narration brings the book to life!

FUN READ

You know the conclusion by the title. But the story raises many issues related to women's rights.

Compelled to write a review

I haven't reviewed a book in awhile but I felt this book deserved one. First of all, the performance was outstanding. Justine Eyre effortlessly switched between American and British accents. They were both flawless. I was very impressed. Secondly, I loved the story and characters. The hero was humble, the heroine was fierce. Recently I have listened to or read a lot of historical romance. They tend to all run togther in my mind after a while. Few are original or clever enough to stand out, this one has done it. I can't wait for book two! The author set it up nicely without distracting from the current book.
