About this listen

Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett has two cases to contend with, both of them lethal, in the electrifying new novel from the number-one New York Times best-selling author.

Wyoming's new governor isn't sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes - these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" aren't uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else.

At the same time, his friend Nate Romanowski has asked Joe to intervene with the feds on behalf of falconers who can no longer hunt with eagles even though their permits are in order. Who is blocking the falconers and why?

The more he investigates both cases, the more someone wants him to go away. Is it because of the missing woman or because he's become Nate's advocate? Or are they somehow connected? The answers, when they come, will be even worse than he'd imagined.

Don’t get me wrong I liked the book, good solid mystery.
However some of the professional reviews were over the top claiming this book is the one to beat this year. That I disagree with. Good definitely not great. Pretty slow moving until Nate shows up. Personally I expected much more action that only arrived at the ending.
The narrator was solid & really did a good job, 5 🌟s for him, kudos.
Well worth a credit but I expected so much more.

Solid/OK C.J. Box novel

The Joe Pickett series is like a good cabernet that grows increasingly rich and flavorful over time. This by far, is one of the best...perhaps bc it intertwined some things I find fascinating (no spoilers) and while I actually did have a good idea what the mystery entailed, it was only bc I've read something similar from another author. Box is careful to tread middle ground politically and I think he does a fine job of not offending either side without sacrificing his character's integrity or, as always, the salient points of all of his books.

I'd like to see Missy disappear with a helping hand from Nate. Of all the characters I hate in any series, she takes the cake. Knock her off in the next one, C.J! loll

Love this series. I hate when one ends, so I immediately get started on the next one.

i liked it! i liked that it was clean (until we got to the character who loved to use 'the F word'), no innuendos...just a story that kept my attention!
