Publisher's summary

Anscar Vonier, OSB (1875 - 1938), was an abbot of Buckfast Abbey, England (1906 - 1938). He came from a large family, where his father was a farmer, who also ran a brickwork. After a number of years, the family moved to Rissegg, where Martin attended a nearby school and became an altar boy.

In 1882, monks who had been exiled from France purchased the site of a former monastery in Devon. In 1888, Vonier was one of the youths who were recruited for the new abbey. In this classic book, he mediates on the motherhood of the Virgin Mary and her title as the Mother of God. This title was affirmed by the council of Ephesus in 431.

In the council, St. Cyril wrote, "'The Word was made flesh"; it can mean nothing else except that he partook of flesh and blood like ourselves. He made our body his own, and proceed as a man from a woman. He did not cast off his existence as God or his generation of God the Father, but took to himself flesh remaining what he was.

Wonderful!

This is an extremely beautiful and edifying work on the Mother of Jesus and her integral part in our Lord’s plan for our salvation. I highly recommend it to those new to the study of Mariology as well as the seasoned veterans.
