About this listen

American short-story writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe is known worldwide as the master of the macabre, but with "The Domain of Arnheim", first published in 1847, we get to see a whole other side to the revered author, some would even say a much deeper side.

"The Domain of Arnheim" is a short tale about a man of great means named Ellison who builds a castle with a garden of breathtaking beauty called Arnheim. In "The Domain of Arnheim", Poe delves deep into the human mind, creative imagination, the soul, and the nature of beauty. Poe blends this in-depth study of the spirit and the mind with his characteristic vivid descriptions of Arnheim to create a piece that, although very different from the bulk of his work, should most definitely not be overlooked.

Not a great performance

The accent of the narrator sounds put on and out of place but it could just be that it doesn’t match the story. The actual reading is done well enough though. There’s a flow that fits the poetic nature of the story and they aren’t stilted or monotone.
