About this listen

The town of Franklin Falls is having its 100th birthday. And that means the town’s historic time capsule is about to be dug up and put on display by the proud citizens. Yeah, well, not if the crooked mayor has his way.

Good thing all-around smart kid Leon Karakostas is one step ahead of him. With his twin sister, Noel, and his crew - Pixie, Microscope, and Aardvark - he’s planning the greatest heist Franklin Falls has ever seen. It’s up to them to save the town’s treasure before the mayor can get his greasy hands on it.

Along the way, they’ll find themselves in a mad dash to the dump, on a rooftop chase, and caught up in a showdown with a mysterious grandma. They’ll cross paths with the world’s worst music, invisible elephants (sort of), waffles on wheels, the Lord of the Pugs, and more. So much more. (Seriously. It’s crazy.)

Will the kids be able to stop the mayor before he steals the town’s most valuable artifact and takes off with it? Find out in Van Temple’s fast-paced and laugh-out-loud funny The Double Drastic Time Capsule Caper!

Say you are a middle school age child and you discover a true rarity is about to be stolen? How does one stop such a horrible theft? This story, which is performed like a play, shows one such answer in a delightful caper. Many kudos to those involved in this production!

Juvenile, but fun for the young in heart

I really liked all of the characters and the story. The writer, illustrator and the voiceover artists helped me to visualize every part of the story.

Absolutely adorable story!

My ten and seven year olds really enjoyed listening to this book; it was silly and the narration was engaging.

This children’s audiobook was just ok. I’m not thrilled with the idea of encouraging kids to steal (even if it’s for a good cause). There are better books out there.

Just ok

Picture (or audibilize in your mind) vocalizations of Peanuts characters or maybe the South Park gang in a Scooby Doo cartoon but without the charm of a dog. The soundtrack of a low budget kid’s movie. Leon narrates with an unpleasant voice but the girls were charming. I think the actors were supposed to be middle schoolers but it plays equally well if you pretend they are liberal arts undergraduates. Then, Leon and Pixie are relatable like Fred and Daphne. Lots of Scooby type escapades. The sexual or sensual undertones, intrigue or dangers have to be totally imagined.
If you are a teenager or older, you will find this a bit hard to get into.

Peanuts characters before Scooby Doo

My kids thought the story was fine, but they were not impressed with the voice of the main character. They often mentioned that it sounded a little weird and distracted from the story.

story ok, voice not
