About this listen
A new hope for dragons. A new danger for the world…
Ophelia, High Queen of the Fae, is ecstatic when Sunny, her bonded dragon, announces that he and his mate are expecting a new egg. After all their trials and tribulations, a dragonling is more than welcome in the realm of Charassi…until a prophecy reveals that the new hatchling may bring about the end of the world.
Other dragons demand that the egg be destroyed. And some within the fae kingdom agree, including a mysterious sect determined to capture the egg at any cost. When they succeed, Ophelia will do anything to get it back. Even if it means putting her safety on the line by infiltrating the Wild Hunt.
But Ophelia’s fierce determination puts her at odds with her co-ruler, King Corrin. And their relationship is not the only thing showing cracks. A sinister power is rising that threatens to tear a rift in magic itself. With enemies and disaster looming on all sides, can Ophelia protect both her friends and her kingdom, before it’s too late?

The hero and heroine, who'd been so well aligned before, also have a more personal struggle. He's trying to deal with the natural phenomena while she's helping the dragons with the egg. They're spending much time apart, and when they come together, they're both feeling the pressure of what's going on and don't feel like the other is being supportive. They’re often at cross-purposes, neither understanding the full situation from the other’s perspective. The dragon king and his lady are amazing in this book! They are just so sweet together and clearly care so much for their little egg that is causing so many problems (and potential problems). You could feel their devastation when they learned that their child was foretold in the ancient, terrible prophecy. The author did a great job showing that they're not just dragons, him a bit grumpy normally anyway, but hurting potential parents who already care about their would-be child. Very empathetic!
I'm really enjoying this series, and unlike others I've listened to by this author, I don't have the complete set as a single audiobook. I'm very much looking forward to listening to the next one. An excellent series by a fantastic author. I certainly recommend this book, but you definitely need to start with the first book of the series so you will understand everything better. The author actually does a pretty decent job catching you up, but you will have a deeper appreciation and care more about the characters and creatures if you listen to this series from the beginning. Highly recommended.
