About this listen

A religious thriller: A jaded professor of religion and an evangelical work together to stop a serial killer - the timeless tale of an unlikely pair joining forces in a common cause and finding themselves transformed along the way.

The plot: Several people have had a near-death experience in which they learn that Christian Fundamentalist beliefs are based on a misinterpretation of Biblical events. These revelations are so sensational and persuasive that 60 Minutes plans to air the story. But just days before the broadcast, the individuals to be featured begin to meet very real deaths, one after another.

Professor of religion Bill Miner and evangelical Victoria Johnson vacillate between heated religious arguments and romantic sparks as they try to stop a killer convinced he’s obeying the will of God.

The Dragon of God wrestles with questions bitingly pertinent in today’s world where doctrine can justify hatred and hatred can turn lethal:

  • Why do good people do bad things in the name of religion?
  • Why are science and religion so hostile to each other?
  • Where does humanity come from, and where are we headed?

Review for The Dragon of God

This is an exciting read with the story of a serial killer and the pursuit of him. That framework is interlaced with the differing views of an evangelical and an ex minister with a new worldview on the afterlife, having been exposed to the concept of near death experiences and life experiences that took him out of active ministry. It is written in a very realistic manner with identifiable places in the Bay Area and beyond in the pursuit of the killer!

The characters are very in-depth and a lot of Biblical research has been presented to further enhance the read. Regardless of your current beliefs, it will cause you to examine your own beliefs and learn the origins of religious doctrines and their evolution! I learned a lot since I’m not as familiar with these concepts or their inceptions.

The characters evolve throughout the book and there are surprises along the way! I definitely recommend this book for everyone. It is well written with all the research. It is both thought provoking and suspenseful!

Narrator

I would have loved to continue listening to this book but I just couldn't stand the narrator or the inflections that he made with his voice. I'm not saying he was a badd narrator I'm just saying his voice didn't appeal to me. I might have preferred Tom Stechschulte to narrate this book.
