About this listen

Take it from a man whose family background includes brawls, visits from "aliens," star-billing on FBI wanted posters, and, oh yes, an altercation with the Swedish Mafia - families can be brutal! But because we all have one, Louie Anderson has written this honest, funny, and brilliant survival manual for anyone who's ever choked on the F Word.

Long before he became one of America's favorite comedians, Louie Anderson was one of eleven children in a Minnesota family headed by an alcoholic father who was all for having kids but clueless about supporting them. It was the kind of childhood you have to learn to laugh at to survive, yet it yielded rich dividends: a host of hilarious and heart-breaking stories, as well as 49 Survival Tips stamped with true wisdom.

From letting go of the past to learning the right lessons from it, from getting to the bottom of those dear old family myths to avoiding the family role you played when you were six years old, The F Word will help you talk the talk, know what genes you're wearing, change the script, get into your in-laws, and stop comparing your family to the Cleavers.

Big-hearted, smart, and always brutally honest, The F Word is one man's guide to being good to your family by learning how to be good to yourself.

Late great louie

aside from sounding like it was recorded over the phone, wonderful several hours with Louie Anderson. themes of family, what it means to be successful, the constant anchor of the past. was helpful for me to hear him question his choices and have regrets.

interesting celebrity book

This is a celebrity advice book meant to be funny and touching. It's not really a self-help book at all. Yes, he lists 49 tips but I think they are meant as a framework for humorous sections on different aspects of his surviving his family. His voice is obnoxious but presumably that's part of his trademark as a comedian. I'd never call this a great book but it was entertaining.

Love his stand up, loved his book more

Other than the semi-poor audio, the book was recorded a while ago, this book kept my attention. I never read any of his other works, but love his comedy and bought it on a whim. I dont regret it.

He presents what he's learned over his lifetime in a fun format that is also heartbreaking at times. He turned his less than great childhood into a retrospective and even recall.

Worth the audible credit.

take this book out of the comedy section

I got this book thinking that it would be somewhat like his stand up routine. Instead i got to listen to him complain and gripe about how crappy his life is. (i know that is kinda what his stand up is, but in the book its a serious complaining and not meant to be funny) The book starts out about him in debt and about to shoot himself in the head wanting invention from god. I finally had to realize i had wasted my money and chaulk this book up as a horrible purchase decision. Unless you thrive on other peoples misery, dont buy this book.
