About this listen

On the island of Avalon, everyone has magical abilities.

Except Selena Pearce.

As if being the only nonmagical person on the island isn’t bad enough, her parents happen to be the king and queen of Avalon - and the most magical people alive.

She’s never felt like she fit in on Avalon, but that all changes when she leaves the island and meets Julian - a mesmerizing, mysterious human. Everything feels perfect between them at first... until he drags her through a portal to the enchanted realm of the fae, where Selena learns that there’s more to the mystery of why she doesn’t have magic than she ever imagined.

Long-buried secrets soon emerge, and she discovers that to escape the fae realm, she must compete in the annual Faerie Games - a televised reality show competition where half-bloods fight to the death.

To survive, she’ll have to make alliances, unravel the mysteries of her past, and figure out whether she can trust Julian. He wants to help her, and there’s no denying the connection between them. But Julian’s already betrayed her once. Why wouldn’t he do it again?

I really enjoyed this series. I will say it left several things open at the end of the book, and I can’t seem to find if there’s another series that answers these questions?

Enjoyed it!

I’m new to listening to the YA mythical category, but WOW! It has the “ideal” Young Adult Trifecta! Adventure ☑️ Thrills ☑️ Steamy Romance (without going 50 shades on us) ☑️!
Another win for Michelle Madow!

Thank you so much for risking your art with the public! I know it can be a huge risk and struggle, but you have made a generation very happy!!!!

YA Trifecta!

Loved listening at the beginning I was having a hard time because of the similarities of the Hunger games but hey Academy books have a lot of similarities as well! The story was fun and filled with a bunch of twists a couple of times I was like nope this isn’t going to happen and then boom. Love the characters, well except for the evil ones but even they were written extremely well.

I really liked the narrator. She did a great job building the story with her narration of the characters and events that transpire.

Fun and full of twists

Great story which draws in different aspects of fantasy and Faerie lore. A little wordy at times but makes up with great detail.

Very good read!

I loved this series! I just hated how the last book left so much unfinished. It felt very incomplete!

I know teenagers do a lot of things but the sexual life of a 16 years old and some of the ethical decisions was a little too much for me.

Nice but some stretches that are too much for me

I loved this series so much. I can't wait to start the next one to see who the last queen is( even though I have my suspension) and see if they get everything accomplished that they need to!

great book!

First I have to say the narrator did a fantastic job with voices, really well done. However the story had its ups and downs. It was slow to get started, like we didn’t get any real action until chapter 28 or something. It did make me attached to the characters enough for me to stick with it until the end.

Parts of it were excellent, very descriptive, really painted a full picture, sometimes it got a bit too graphic with gruesome details for my liking. I understand it was to make us feel things more deeply but I don’t usually want those feelings when reading a fantasy book about fairies, made me a little sick to my stomach a couple of times.

It definitely got more interesting as story progressed. But then the ending didn’t wrap everything up. We are left with a major aspect unresolved.

Overall, I don’t regret my time spent listening to this series, but I’m not sure I’d choose to listen to it if I had known these things ahead of time. It’s hard to say, because the concept and the performance were both great. But leaving it unresolved is very frustrating.

Great narration, ok story
