About this listen

“The Sith always betray one another. . . . I’m sure you’ll learn that soon enough.”

The overthrow of the Republic is complete. The Separatist forces have been smashed, the Jedi Council nearly decimated, and the rest of the Order all but destroyed. Now absolute power rests in the iron fist of Darth Sidious–the cunning Sith lord better known as the former Senator, now Emperor, Palpatine. But more remains to be done. Pockets of resistance in the galaxy must still be defeated and missing Jedi accounted for . . . and dealt with. These crucial tasks fall to the Emperor’s ruthless enforcer, Darth Vader. In turn, the Dark Lord has groomed a lethal apprentice entrusted with a top-secret mission: to comb the galaxy and dispatch the last of his masters’ enemies, thereby punctuating the dark side’s victory with the Jedi’s doom.

Since childhood, Vader’s nameless agent has known only the cold, mercenary creed of the Sith. His past is a void; his present, the carrying out of his deadly orders. But his future beckons like a glistening black jewel with the ultimate promise: to stand beside the only father he has ever known, with the galaxy at their feet. It is a destiny he can realize only by rising to the greatest challenge of his discipleship: destroying Emperor Palpatine.

The apprentice’s journeys will take him across the far reaches of the galaxy, from the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk to the junkyard planet of Raxus Prime. On these missions, the young Sith acolyte will forge an unlikely alliance with a ruined Jedi Master seeking redemption and wrestle with forbidden feelings for his beautiful comrade, Juno Eclipse. And he will be tested as never before–by shattering revelations that strike at the very heart of all he believes and stir within him long-forgotten hopes of reclaiming his name . . . and changing his destiny.

Galen!

I have always enjoyed this tale but never got to the audiobook version. Marc Thompson does an amazing job as always.

Wish this was performed by Sam Witwer

I really loved the game, and have the abridged audio book. Real glad there is a full version and Marc Thompson does a fine job, I just think it would have been that much better, considering Sam Witwer just did Shadow Hunter, and was the original Starkiler VA.

Marc does it again.

This is another great star wars novel from the early publishing days. The abridgment was great, but as always with star wars novels, it is much better to hear the complete novel.

good pacing with a good story

I played the game long ago and vaguely remembered the story before listening. Mark does a wonderful job and is a master at his craft. My only criticism is the boyish voice he went with for Starkiller. It does make some sense as to why, but I just didn't like it that much. That doesn't take away from the amazing performance, just a preference.

The Force Unleashed

The story of Galen Merrick AKA Starkiller is a welcome edition to my collection. The story is great and Marc does a pretty good job here. Proxy, and Kota shine in this reading.

NOW THIS IS STAR WARS!!!!!! AWESOMENESS

I loved Force Unleashed game when it came out in 2008. My first daughter was born that year as well. so it was an exciting time for me. But I loved this story of an anti-hero. Starkiller/ Galen Marek played to perfection by Sam Witwer was amazing. I'm still hoping today on current game consoles we get an anniversary edition- with an expansion that closes out his story- cause unfortunately Part 2 is a cliffhanger ending. But this audiobook is AMAZING. Not surprised, cause Marc Thompson crushes it. EVERYTIME. He crushes it. I'm only on Chapter 4 and it's incredible. This is old school Star Wars- if you know you know. While I enjoy most of the High Republic books- the last year, year and half have gone the "WOKE" route to include so much stuff that just isn't necessary in an adventure/sci fi story. None of that here. Just good old adventure and interesting subjects dealing with who you trust, who you follow, how to grow, realize your mistakes and make changes to improve yourself and those around you. Hence- why I'm attracted to Galen Marek/ Starkiller so much as a character. Very cool stuff- and this unabridged audiobook expands on stuff the game didn't cover- which makes it even better. IF you're looking for good old school SW's , stuff about the sith, stuff about Vader, stuff about Order 66 and its aftermath, etc... this is for you. May the force be with you. Can't for next year when we get Part 2 Legends unabridged as well.

Nostalgia at its Finest!

As of this productions release its been 16 years since the release of the original game. I had the PlayStation 2 version of the game which was during a time when PS2 and PS3 versions were vastly different. But even playing the lesser version of the game I was completely captivated by Galen's story and how it tied into the greater Canon, how his story led to the creation of the rebel alliance. It added so much more to the stakes of the world, the setups, and meaning behind each and every action of the rebels in the OT.

Years later I managed to play the PS3 version and I was not disappointed. It recaptured my love for the expanded universe and how good we had it back in the day. Sam was a phenomenal voice actor and the story was even better when expanded upon. I say all this because through the four days I took to listen to this book I was transported back 16 years ago to a time when Star Wars was alive with amazing, innovative, and fresh content. Mark Thompson is fantastic as always, and the way the writing fleshes out the games story is just perfection, adding so much more character depth and thought.

This story is Nostalgia for a time when Star Wars was a vast playground of creativity and fun. Would always recommend this to anyone who wants a fun really good story.

this is a really good legends novel.

I enjoyed that there was so much more in this story. it fleshed out the characters more and it was so much more engrossing than the abridged one was. I would recommend this to any Star Wars fan.

Finally we get Unabridged Version

After years of only having the unabridged version of this book we finally get the full thing. Mark Thompson is phenomenal as always, even though I think it should have been Jonathan Davis since he did the previous version.
The story is great as always and I will definitely listen again. Anyone who grew up with these games will enjoy this version. Well deserving of 5 stars

Perfect!

Once again the novelization proves better than the movie/game it's based on. Mark always does amazing narrations, and this one was no exception. This is also the best Darth Vader has ever sounded in an audio book. If I had to come up with anything to critique, it would be that Sam Witwer didn't get to narrate since he is Starkiller, but Mark did such a good job that it's something I almost never thought about.
