About this listen

 When is it alright for a woman to call a child hers? What are the requirements? Do they only involve giving birth to a child or the legal adoption of one? What about love?

I can only answer these questions for myself. Although I did not give birth to my two stepchildren or have a document making them legally mine, the love I feel for them is non-the-less real. As far as I’m concerned, they are my children. I don’t believe that I’m taking anything away from Janie, their biological mother, by saying that they are also mine; because, as I have tried to instill within all five of my children, there is enough love to go around.
