Millie Hinchliffe lives a near-perfect existence, tucked away with her loving fighter-pilot husband in their picture-postcard cottage in the glorious English countryside. As a mother, artist, classical pianist, and avid gardener, Millie has it all.
But when "Hinch" goes missing with a beautiful heiress over the Atlantic in a bid to set a flying record, her world is shaken to the core. Heartbroken and facing ruin, she questions the validity of messages she receives from the "other side" - messages that her husband is desperate to help her. In this suspenseful tale of unconditional love, desperate loss, and wild adventure, Hinch charges Millie with an extraordinary mission: Put a stop to the British Airship Program and prevent another national tragedy.
Praise for The Ghost of Captain Hinchliffe
"Another riveting tale from David Dennington, author of The Airshipmen. This time, he cleverly weaves together a couple’s amazing love and the temptation it faces with the drama of a transatlantic flying record attempt and a spine-tingling psychic connection from beyond the grave that becomes the only hope of preventing a horrific aviation disaster. It’s an intriguing recipe that makes it hard to put down The Ghost of Captain Hinchliffe." (David Wright, Daily Mirror journalist)

This novel is especially absorbing as it based on historic characters and events -- Raymond Hinchliffe and Elsie Mackay were lost at sea while attempting the first westbound crossing of the Atlantic by airplane and the first crossing in either direction by a woman; Millie Hinchliffe, Eileen Garrett and Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle did convincingly claim to have communicated with the dead pilot; and the R101 airship did crash on its maiden flight to India as they had very-publicly warned.
This is a splendid story of the perils of aviation in its early days, the daring adventurers who risked -- and often lost -- their lives, and one devastated widow's subsequent introduction to the spiritualism craze of the early 20th century. If you enjoy this novel, I highly recommend David Dennington's earlier work, The Airshipmen, that tells the story of the British airship program and the people involved, and features some of the same characters.
Excellently narrated historical fiction

The author, David Dennington weaves a poignant love story peppered with adventure and the paranormal. Dennington is slow and deliberate in building the characters and storyline. As the listener, you may try to anticipate where the author goes but he has solid plot twists that demonstrate his abilities as a strong storyteller. His rich vocabulary vividly describes the scene and characters.
Lauren Dennington makes her debut as narrator in this romantic, paranormal, and adventure-filled story. Her unique voices are well done and reflect the nature of each character. Her poise and talent resonate with the listener keeping them engaged. I look forward to hearing more performances by Ms. Dennington.
This is a story that will pull at your heartstrings and capture your imagination. I highly recommend it.
